It sounds like your phone is unresponsive after you started an update. If it is still stuck, I would force the phone to restart using these steps from the following article:
Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
To force restart your device, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least ten seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
That should bring your phone back around and get it going again. Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
