Q: Having trouble installing OS X El Capitan

Mine downloaded first time; It took about 20 minutes before the Install Page showed up, then another 30 minutes to Install. Are you downloading from the App Store or from a 3rd party site ?

Downloaded from the App Store and having the same problem. Haven't found a solution yet

Others here are reporting some slow download times; Its possible that your problem is caused by the high demand on Apple's Servers. The only thing I can think of is to just wait a couple of days for the demand to slow down and perhaps try again.

Having exactly the same problem on my 2015 MacBook. Yes, I installed from the App Store. No, the problem is not slow download time. Logging in to the App Store to attempt a reinstall fails because App Store has "Download" greyed out. Didn't copy the error message but I think it said something about deleting the El Capitan partition (how?) and reinstalling El Capitan.

I wonder if they are referring to a Partition on your Hard Drive ?

If you open the Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities) does it show the El Capitan as a partition ?

Thanks, BritinUSA. I did use Disk Utility to examine the disk, and it shows only one partition (named "Current").

From App Store ; Did you try clicking Store / Check for Unfinished Downloads ?

Can't find Store/Check for Unfinished Downloads at App Store. Don't see it under Quicklinks.
The page for downloading El Capitan says "Downloaded" and "No Updates Available," so it won't let me download again. "Purchased" tab also lists El Capitan as "Downloaded." Doesn't this imply it finished the download? and was somehow corrupted? If I could find a pkg and safely delete it, I would, but I don't know where and how to find it. Removal must be safe.

Aha! After reading message above from sandro900 I did find El Capitan download pkg. Its contents show size of 6.09 gigs. Can I safely delete it and try download again? Do you think? Thanks to BritinUSA and sandro900.

try renaming it, that way if something gets messed up, you still have the file.

Is Apple victim of succes? Must do something about that

Sigh. Renamed the Install file and moved it to the Desktop. App Store still says "Downloaded." I've now left an email at App Store support. Getting frustrated.
