Sep 22, 2015 12:24 PM in response to KimberleeMSby expendablejoe,There is a Wacom version stylus pen that runs around the same price that's pressure sensitive as well to a similar degree. Just a theory but I'd be willing to bet this is where Apple got their pencil and its price point? Hope that helps, here's a link.

Sep 30, 2015 7:16 PM in response to kiboshby deggie,No, it isn't his assumption: http://www.apple.com/apple-pencil/ (and this link has already been posted here once, did you read it?)

Oct 1, 2015 7:20 AM in response to deggieby kibosh,Yes, very good. You found the product page. I read it. But that doesn't mean the tech in the Air 2 wouldn't be the same as the Pro or compatible in some way. Other than saying iPad Pro a lot in the copy, it doesn't mean there isn't compatible tech on something current like the iPad Air 2. So yes, you do assume. Perhaps Apple will limit it with software, or maybe there is something drastically different in the screen or other hardware, but Apple makes claims all the time that everything is new and innovative when they only make a few changes.

The screen on the Pro is a completely different design than current iPads. The compatibility of the Pencil is hardware based. It isn't based on Apple placing a "limit" with software.

Oct 1, 2015 7:51 AM in response to kiboshby deggie,No, you have it backwards. At the very end of the article (and throughout as you mention) it says the product in the Apple Pencil for iPad Pro. It is quite clear and I'll take their word for it. You are assuming (or hoping) that those labels are meaningless and when you buy one it will work on an iPad Air 2. And when it doesn't you will probably complain about it.

Oct 1, 2015 8:28 AM in response to deggieby kibosh,So you are happy to assume it won't work instead of waiting for proof. That's fine. It just doesn't say that explicitly now does it.

Oct 1, 2015 8:31 AM in response to kiboshby deggie,http://www.apple.com/ipad-pro/
For those of us who watched the release event it was also well covered.
I am also going to assume that if Apple has a smart case for iPad Pro that it won't work with an iPad Air 2.

Oct 1, 2015 8:44 AM in response to deggieby kibosh,That would be a good assumption since the iPad Pro is much bigger than the iPad Air 2 (eye roll)... I can read webpages and did watch the keynote, and they didn't say it won't work. Just because they say the Pencil is designed for the iPad Pro doesn't prove it won't work on something like the iPad Air 2 or the new iPad Mini 4. So be a sheep if you want, but until I have proof I am not assuming anything.

It was covered thoroughly in the media event Sept 9th, and is discussed extensively in tech media. The Pencil will not work with any device other than the iPad Pro, until - and if - the smaller format devices are updated with the new screen. Apple has made no announcement on that topic. Hence why every reference on Apple's website for the pencil clearly and emphatically states it will only work on the Pro.
So when it is released, by all means spend $99 on one to find out for yourself that it won't work.
