Q: El Capitan split screen doesn't work
I've upgraded to El Capitan, and the split screen option simply doesn't work. Is there an option or something I need to enable? I've attempted to hold down the green button, I've attempted to get this to work in Mission Control, too. Both did not work. Using MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) with NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB. Tried with Safari, App Store, Google Chrome and none of these worked.
MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11)

Hi sentinel21,
My MBP is the same as yours and I faced the same problem. To solve this, you'll need to enable "Displays have separate spaces", located in System Preferences > Mission Control. This will require you to log out and back in. Then, simply click and hold on the green "Full Screen" button and drag the window to another part of the screen.
See the below link where I found this solution.
Good Luck
