Once you upgrade from W7/W8+ to W10, your Mac is registered with Microsoft. You can do a clean install of W10 on your Mac directly, without having to upgrade again. Your 2012 MBP supports a clean installation as stated in Use Windows 10 on your Mac with Boot Camp - Apple Support .
Use the standard method How to install Windows using Boot Camp - Apple Support and test.
