ApplicationsHi,
Mine's only going to be one in September.
Already walking and enjoying Morris Dancing.
Understands well enough to wave bye bye when we FaceTime her mother.
You are right in that the Jive software calls Posting names "Nicknames"
input id="nickname" name="account.person.name.nickName"
The Jive software is used by loads of companies.
Apple use a fair amount (lots) of javascript and CSS to change the basic appearance.

Yes, Jive is in wide use. A powerful and useful collaboration tool (not that we could tell from the modifications made on it here)
I got this from the JiveSoftware Community a little while ago today
"The Jive Community will be upgraded to version 8.0.1 on Thursday, August 27, 2015 starting at 5 pm PDT"
If you remember last summer, I think it possible that AppleJiveWare underwent such an "upgrade"
I am apprehensive............
I think that many 'features' can be "toggled" in the Management Console, but the "Look and Feel" is CSS for sure.
What browser do you use? Not sure if you are interested?
I and many others favor Firefox - some Chrome - for "working here" (remind me to ask for that raise!) Check out >
Stylish | Adjust the format and layout of ASC Web Pages | Apple Support Communities
* I unsure whether the link to this has made its way into that document > Adjust the format and layout of ASC Web Pages - Themes and Skins for Apple - userstyles.org < this is the CSS "IN" the User Tip converted to be ready for use with the Stylish Add-On
[waving bye-bye]

Oct 3, 2015 9:22 AM in response to Ralph Johns (UK)by trailgazer,Thanks for all the insight on this. I would really prefer not to have my name and location as my username. I do not remember how it happened, but I saw something in a post that it was a default I must have checked. It seems that with all the discussion that a change could be made. That said and on another note I have a lot of trouble trying to figure out how to use this forum without getting frustrated. Is there a how to use the forum tutorial?

Oct 3, 2015 9:39 AM in response to trailgazerby ChitlinsCC,how it happened
when you are choosing a username, if it is already taken or unacceptable (or maybe even happens 'actively' as you type, I forget) a "list" of suggestions pops up, like Goggle search suggestions - they almost always have "FirstName+from+CityOfResidence", which the process already knows from previous entries.
I will alert our Hosts, after that, it is up to them
There are MANY features available to choose your own WorkFlow... I favor
- Browser Bookmarks of forum URLs found in tt2's SITEMAP | Apple Support Communities
- add " /content " to any forum URL for a more advanced view of the forum list
- email notifications = TRUE
- Discussion View in your Preferences page = [Threaded]
- NOTE that there is a TimeoutLength of ±30 minutes for inactivity - that can be defeated if you are a frequent participant (instructions provided if you care)
- There are MANY random glitches - best advice = Try Again
- others favor Activity Stream - I do not = too "blog-ish"

Oct 4, 2015 1:01 PM in response to trailgazerby Ralph Johns (UK),Hi,
I have a bunch of older Apple IDs that tend to end @mac.com
I gained them for testing iChat at the time.
None have been added to the Support Discussions set up so I don't know the current format of name suggestions.
The "firstNameFromPlace" without spaces has always seemed odd.
Adding spaces would seem to be fairly easy. (Locations that have spaces in the name have them included (like "Marth's Viineyard").
The regular Posters all seem to have their own methods developed over time and in some cases several versions of he Software used to run the boards.
I do the following:-
Answer new emails alerting me to new posts.
Once that is done I use a Bookmark to go to the iChat Community (Forum).
I follow this area by Mavericks and the Yosemite and now I have added El Capitan as it also has it's own iMessage/Messages app section.
I do this by filtering.
The normal view is this:-
If you manually add the word /content to the URL and then use it you get a different view. (Note the URL)
I select Messages down the Side Menu and then Discussions across the boxes.
This shows you the Unread posts that have been made with the Filter tagging.
Note the URL now extends beyond the viewable field.
The ? icons denote Posters Questions
The Apple Icon ones means a Community Host has replied.
A Screen Grab from Yosemite's Community with a similar Messages filter.
This has the
iCon. This is supposed to show when the Original Poster who started the Thread thinks a Post has the answer they were looking for. There is also a Helpful Button showing on the Reply posts.
If they are awarded to you then you get points (10 for Green and 5 for Orange).
If you find the answer yourself or elsewhere then post that answer you can mark that post yourself (but you don't get points for it)
I think most newcomers use the first pic and the filter items across the top.
Some people seem to tag their posts with all the filter times.
AS you can see in the second El Capitan pic that some things can get filtered with two or more filter tags as a Mail question also appears (There again Apple's Help has always called emails "Messages" so the confusion is understandable).9:01 p.m. Sunday; October 4, 2015

Dec 20, 2015 3:25 PM in response to iCore24by Lucialoo,I can't believe what I'm reading- that I have to jump through some (unknown) hoops to "increase my level" so I can earn the privilege of changing my username ??
I DO NOT want to change my apple id, don't want to change my password. I simply want to change my username the way it appears in the apple support forum so my id is more anonymous. Why is apple making this such a colossal BFD ? It's only a support forum- I would change nothing else about my identity/security etc.
Unfortunately I have not seen many answers to the question. Am I reading this correctly that
1. It's currently it's impossible without an act of congress, or "increasing your level"- and
2. The only way to do it is to 're-invent' yourself with a new email , and cloud account ?
Any sane help appreciated- even if it's bad news
