Oct 3, 2015 12:10 PM in response to nudd0234by turingtest2,I am not personally familiar with iTunes U redeem codes, but if they work as other iTunes redemption codes then they should probably work in iTunes as well as the iTunes U app. It should be iTunes U > iTunes Store > Redeem > {Enter password} > {Enter code}.
See Redeem iTunes Gift Cards and codes - Apple Support.

Oct 4, 2015 2:37 AM in response to turingtest2by nudd0234,Thanks but nah the code format is different and does not work, the code is 9 letters separated evenly by 2 hyphens.
This is what I received from my tutor:
'You may also wish to download the iTunes U course which has been created, which covers all 3 modules of your ATPL. To do this you will need to download the iTunes U app (free from Apple), then following a similar logic to the one you used to download the iBooks but this time use the “Enrol" button and enter the code ***-***-***.
Before you get access to the course I'll need to approve you so please don't worry if the course takes a short while to appear on your iPad! It is up to you decide if you wish to use the iTunes U course to help you to monitor your progress through all the course material - what you mark in it doesn't get reported back to me or anyone else so it's an "optional" extra.'
I understand this is for an iPhone or iPad but is there no way to access it on a mac?
