Oct 3, 2015 8:56 AM in response to lllaassby circulairA,Yes it seems to be mechanicly operational, to confirm this I pluggesd it in and this opens: "The Disc You Inserted was not readable by this computer" Which I forgot to mention, With these three options "Initialze.. ignore eject" clicked Initialize then given the option to format but it won't allow any further progress, thought it would be easier to start again. I feel this is connected to the encryption...

Oct 3, 2015 1:14 PM in response to lllaassby circulairA,For the one and only El Capitan back-up I got to put on iomega, it was over 16 gb. I was monitoring occasionally while working and thought that the last half hour of back-up seemed short, like it didn't complete correctly. Opening the encryption unlock panel does nothing to assist. I can't recall any cleanup time after either.

Oct 8, 2015 7:09 PM in response to circulairAby nickhowehds,★HelpfulMy Iomega drive is also not recognized under El Capitan. Works fine on Yosemite. I took it into the Apple Store and they confirmed it doesn't work on any of their El Capitan machines either. Looks like it is a compatibility issue. Haven't found a work around yet.

Oct 8, 2015 7:43 PM in response to nickhowehdsby circulairA,I went through everything "Lenovo" (iOmega owners) had, to recommend on their website without a solution. Feeling exposed I bought a LaCie Rugged Thunderbolt 2TB(for Mac) from the Apple store , feeling a bit more secure now. Loaded simply and TimeMachine backed-up a few times now. Tip found out LaCie bought by Western digital, its easy to see why, on Apple Store, seems WesternD is out of favour with Apple...

Oct 9, 2015 6:14 AM in response to nickhowehdsby nickhowehds,I Spoke to the Iomega guys last night. The only thing they could think of was that Apple may (for some unknown reason) have reduced the USB port voltage with El Capitan. They suggested attaching a USB power supply to the drive's secondary port on the Y cable and seeing if that fixes the problem. I'm traveling right now so won't be able to test until tomorrow.

Oct 9, 2015 7:23 AM in response to nickhowehdsby circulairA,I never thought of connecting both up, it's never required that before, I'll try it tonight - no hurry now I'm part LaCei, lacy, lazy... one of those....

Oct 10, 2015 8:24 AM in response to nickhowehdsby nickhowehds,I tested it and it worked. I used a Lithium Ion USB battery (the kind you use to recharge your phone on the go) and connected it to the spare pigtail on the Y cable. The drive was immediately recognized in El Capitan. Looks like it is definitely a current/voltage problem on the USB port on the Mac - looks like the OS changed something.
