Q: Windows 10 crashing after upgrade from Win 8.1

I have a 27" iMac with a 3.4ghz i7 and 12 gigs of ram running Yosemite. Win 8.1 always ran fine on Boot Camp. No issues. I upgraded to Windows 10 and it was mess. First, I could not access many regular Windows features. I could not left click on certain features and things like the App Store were inaccessible. I found a patch online that was a path to a download that repaired those first issues. However, the install is still crashing after 5-10 minutes of boot up. I may have to reinstall or reset the machine but even then I am not sure how to do that. Should I do it through Boot Camp assistant or boot to windows, etc.

Any tips?

Your 2011 iMac is not officially supported by Apple for Windows 10. Please see Use Windows 10 on your Mac with Boot Camp - Apple Support . You will run into driver issues and will have to find generic drivers or use the older drivers and re-install them with Administrative privileges in emulation mode.

Thanks for pointing out the embarrassingly obvious. I suppose I should have checked that first!! Wow. So... How do I revert back to 8.1 now that it's been over 30 days? I have an OEM disk.

Do you want to consider re-installatin of W8.1? I assume you have a backup of W8.1 before you upgraded.

I have an 8.1 disk. The part that isn't clear to me is whether I should just boot to the Win partition and insert the disk or somehow, run it through Boot Camp .

You will need to re-install W8.1 from scratch. I suggest you backup your files from W10, remove it using BC Assistant, and the use BCA fro re-install W8.1.
