Q: Why did my Mail window disappear and why won't it reappear?

after upgrading to El Capitan my mailboxes vanished in Mail. I got the accounts restarted in Preferences but now when I open Mail nothing appears at all. No Mailbox, no mail, nothing. I select open new window and still nothing appears. This is the worse update I have ever had.

    Hi pdmeloon,

Thank you for continuing to be active in the Apple Support Communities and for taking the time to post this question!

To begin troubleshooting this situation with Mail, I would first suggest using Force Quit to close the application completely. After Mail has been completely closed by using Force Quit, try to open it fresh and see if the normal window displays as expected.

    1. Choose Force Quit from the Apple menu, or press Command-Option-Esc
(this is similar to pressing Control-Alt-Delete on a PC).
    2. Select the unresponsive app in the Force Quit window, then click Force Quit.

Force an app to close on your Mac - Apple Support

We invite you to respond and let us know if this step to Force Quit Mail was helpful to you in resolving this issue or to provide further information. We understand that situations that keep you from your email can be very frustrating, but I want to assure you that we are here to help! :)

We look forward to hearing back from you and for your continued participation in the Apple Support Communities!

    Best!
