Solved. Had to re-install the Ethernet interface driver, which wasn't imported as it isn't a network or system setting, I store that folder in Utilities.

I had the same problem on a 2015 Powerbook.

I had to re-install the Ethernet interface driver, which wasn't imported as it isn't a network or system setting, I had stored that folder in Utilities. Ran that, re-started, Ethernet is back.

Hi, glad to hear you have managed to fix the problem. Could you direct me to anywhere that I could download said driver? Having not saved it myself I'm still stuck!

    bysh,

That would come from the manufacturer of your Ethernet adapter. I have a Powerbook, with no port, and a router to send WiFi. My interface is a SimpleDock USB hub, with a built-in interface connected to my router. I would assume that any non-Apple interface would offer the driver on their website. If you ever loaded one, it may be residing in a folder somewhere and needs to be re-installed.

If it's an Apple interface, that would probably be more of a network/system issue. Best of luck.

thanks for the solution - I followed the routine and it worked for me but the thunderbolt adapter has to be plugged before getting the Thunderbolt Ethernet option from the menu (MacBook Pro)

The driver on this page for ASIX USB GIGABIT Lan Adaptor works with El Capitan  http://www.asix.com.tw/download.php?sub=driverdetail&PItemID=131 After installing and rebooting, create a new network connector and select AX88179.

If you've got an RD9700-based adapter, here's how to get it working:

    http://inkandfeet.com/how-to-use-a-generic-usb-20-10100m-ethernet-adaptor-rd9700 -on-mac-os-1011-el-capitan

I'd bet the basic principles at the bottom would actually get a lot of other folks unstuck as well.

Same problem. Ethernet adaptor not recognised on Macbook 2015.  (Either the cable for USB Ethernet is not plugged in or the device at the other end is not responding) I managed to get it working by...

    Go to System PReferences

    Go to Network

    Click Ethernet

    click Advanced

    Click Hardware Tab

    Change to Configure Manually

    Speed: Select Auto Select.

    and it started working.

I briefly had a message you are connected but no IP address and then IP address appeared automatically.

I've got my ethernet working again.  The solution was to change the IP settings from "Manual with DHCP" to "Manual" [I'm not using a router].

    Cheers.

Today I found another solution for my problem:

    — Delete all network interfaces in System Preferences > Network

    — Delete file /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist (and maybe you can need delete file /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist)

    — Reboot

    — After Reboot go to System Preferences > Network and add all network interfaces (wi-fi Ethernet and other)

    — Done!

Try this way and say me Is it help for you?

Same issue - and right after the upgrade, no matter what ipaddr I made it, it reported as 192.168.1.2 - which is an addr we have never used.

Wireless works fine, so been limping with that and fixing other issues.

Thanks to the posts here, I got my wired ethernet working - how I did it:

    created a new location

added wireless configuration (and it connected)

added ethernet configuration and when plugged in the cable, it connected AND worked (the latter part wasn't happening before).

then turned off wireless and crossed my fingers and went to a new webpage - dang, nice to have fast connection again.

So, without having to delete stuff and do downloads/installs, what I was able to do was simple and easy.

    Thanks for the help!!!

    I solved the problem!!!!!

Just download the driver of your adapter and install it again. That's it.
