Q: My Apple Watch won't update

I'm trying to update my Apple Watch Sport model. It has more than 50% battery, I'm on WiFi, and it's plugged in and charging. I've tried restarting my iPhone and Watch and nothing happens. My phone says Installing on Apple Watch but nothing happens on my Watch. Once I put the passcode in on both devices, my phone just continues to say Installing but it's really not.

MY issue is that when I try to install, it tells me to plug in my watch. Well it is plugged in and charged 100% and so is my phone. Anyone else having this issue?

What worked for me was to turn off both the watch and my iPhone 6 plus with iOS 9. I also turned off my Bluetooth, and turned it back on. Then I attempted to repeat the download of watchOS 2, and it worked. I now see my Apple watch loading the new software with the circle around the Apple icon slowly progressing while installing. Previously, my attempts at downloading and installing the software resulted in the phone hanging on the "verifying" process. Had attempted to repeat the download, but it repeatedly failed. Only after I turned off the watch and the phone did the download and install process work.

    Mine "hung" on verifying.

I came here and read this post and thanks to all: I turned off both the watch and the iphone and within two minutes it finished verifying and is now installing and during which time the Apple logo is on the Watch.

I also had a "this hardware is not approved by Apple (sic)" for the Watch appear a couple of times although I only use Apple chargers and cables so not sure what that was all about.

I unpaired my watch from my iPhone and then repair again.  This fixed it.  Thanks

Thanks for the tip, I was stuck on verifying for days trying many things, but after un-syncing and re-syncing watchOS 2 installed.

Try these steps, which have reportedly worked for others who have experienced issues at the "verifying" stage.

However: do not interrupt your iPhone or watch if the process has already reached the stage of "installing".

On your iPhone, close the Apple Watch app along with all other open apps (double-press on the Home button, swipe up on the previews).

Restart both devices, turning both off and then restarting your iPhone first.

    - To turn your watch off (removing it from the charger temporarily): press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider; drag the slider to turn off.

    - To turn your watch back on: press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.

    Then try updating again.

I had the same problems everyone else seems to be having. I unpaired my watch from my iPhone and re-paired it and all is well. I hope this helps for you too. Good Luck!

I can get my upload stuck on estimating time remaining. I have synced and re-synced the watch a couple of time. My home wifi is off my verizon hotspot, so maybe my wifi is the issue.  What ever the issue is, it *****.

I have tried restarting my watch my phone switching to airplane mode and forcing wifi. I have power cycled the watch and phone multiple times. And every time i launch the watch app the software update section continues to say software up to date. watchOS 2.2.2 which is obviously not true as watchOS 3 has been released. I have force quit the apps on my iphone and watch to no avail. Can anyone help with this?

I had this problem after updating to OS 10, I had to restart both the phone and the watch.  Also, as others have said, make sure the watch is at least 50% and on it's charger and on WiFi.
