Oct 4, 2015 12:37 PM in response to Linc Davisby toomuchtimeonmyhands,Yes, the Mac did recognize my Seagate I use with Time Machine, so I was able to back up all files. But, it still does not recognize my USB floppy disk drive. It is a Sony 2x FDD Model MPF88E. I use it to transfer embroidery machine files to my Husqvarna/Viking embroidery machine.

ApplicationsHold down the option key and select
▹ System Information...
from the menu bar. In the window that opens, select
Hardware ▹ USB
from the list on the left. On the right you should now see a list of all connected USB devices, as well as some built-in components. Is the device listed?

ApplicationsI'm not sure the floppy drive will ever work, but the hard drive should. Can you test it with another computer? Is it connected directly to a built-in port?

Oct 9, 2015 2:03 PM in response to Linc Davisby antoniotarin,★HelpfulThis is happening to me too,
I have a generic (case is unbranded but drive manufacturer is Sony), external USB FDD and it appears on System Information under Hardware > USB > USB 3.0 Bus, but even when I plug it in with a diskette inserted the drive does not appear on the desktop.
However, with this MacBook I'm able to plug my FDD on my Windows 10 Boot Camp partition and it works perfectly. I don't think it has anything to do with the port being USB 3.0.
It also works on my iMac running Yosemite. I think Apple could have dropped support for FDD's on the latest release of the OS.
I'm currently upgrading my iMac to El Capitan so I can try to confirm if this issue comes from the OS.
If anyone finds a solution please advise.
Regards,

Oct 10, 2015 2:54 PM in response to Linc Davisby antoniotarin,It's definitely a software issue from El Capitan, nothing to do with USB 3.0 / 2.0 compatibility or a faulty drive.
I upgraded my iMac (early 2008) to OS X 10.11 and as I expected, the drive no longer spins when plugged in, nor it appears in the desktop (same as with my MacBook or toomuchtimeonmyhands' Mac). It still appears under System Information though.
Is there any way this could be sent to Apple?
I'm guessing this also applies to USB Zip drives and older storage hardware.
Is there any reason why they would drop support for these older drives?

Oct 12, 2015 2:51 PM in response to antoniotarinby Level42,Hi,
I have the same problem with a NEC UF0002 USB floppy drive. I need this for transferring small files to my EPROM burning system.
It has always worked fine, but now it doesn't even spin up after installing El Capitano.
However, when I use Parallels running Windows 8.1 it works just fine !This is weird and we want it back Apple.....please.....
