Q: IOS 9 causing FaceTime problems

HI,

I have found that the new IOS 9 update has caused very bad issues to FaceTime so that you are unable to see the person you are speaking to just a black screen and lots of poor connection messages comI got up. Very annoying and know it's the IOS 9 software issue as we checked by updating different devices and finding they all acquire the issue when updated. When are Apple going to sort this  issue and how can I return my iPad to the old software so that I can use FaceTime again ?

very very very very very very annoying !

iPhone 4, iOS 9

I have a similar issue but I can see the person I'm calling but they have a black screen and no video at their end.  Seems to have come along with the IOS9 update as it all worked fine before.

Just perhaps it is not a good idea to update till all the bugs are swatted.

If someone has an answer I will be grateful.

Using SKYPE at the moment and it works fine.

Similar issue here. Both my mom and I did the iOS9 updates and ever since we have had little to no luck with FaceTime. She can see me on her end, but my end is a black screen with the "Poor connection.." message. However, this has only happened when we have tried from our homes. When she tried FaceTiming from a local tech store and her office (me at home on wifi), it worked fine. When she tried again from home (on wifi) and I was at home (on wifi) back to black screen for me...

I'm having the same sort of issues. Recently upgraded to iOS9 on ipad 4th gen and iphone 5.....How disappointing....Facetime phone to phone works fine..

Facetime phone to ipad is a problem....The user on the ipad can see the phone user.....but the person using the phone cannot see the person using the ipad..

Basically a black screen on the phone....says poor connection......which is rubbish.....there is nothing wrong with the the WIFI or 4G connection....

To put it quite simply, there is a bug in the new software which affects the camera on the ipad..... Everything worked fine before the software upgrade....

I have been told to do a hard shutdown, sign out of facetime.then..sign back in..., go back to factory reset settings.....sorry did all that and didn't work...

Apple need to repair the software so facetime works again on ipad 4th generation....

I updated to IOS9 yesterday, it has effectively bricked facetime, and now there is no where back to IOS8.

Apple should consider to change their name to Pear.

Yes they should it's a disgrace ! I even took my iPad to the apple shop they reset it then started back up from cloud. I checked faceyime there it worked but I noted that the cloud back up was far from finished when I got home and so when I tried it later it was a to the black screen. They need to sort this issue with abig fixing update but they don't appear to have done this yet and it's very very annoying! Do t waste your time going to Apple they are useless !

yes 'pear' shaped facetime issues with IOS 9.

This is even better.  The official Apple support page...

If you can't make or receive FaceTime calls - Apple Support

To quote, update to the latest version of IOS ;+)

    6. Update your device to the latest version of iOS.

But it is the latest version that caused the problem.

One would think that the software would go through some sort of quality assurance program before allowing it to "go live" on devices and disabling some functions....Seems like a big oversight.....

Think Apple have taken a page from Microsoft. Throw out half tested software and wait to see reported problems.

Having same problem iphone 6 running 9.0.2.

Tested being able to facetime son's ipad in the house on same wifi.

When in separate location get the 'poor connection' msgs with no video for him..

Was working great pre ios9 update. Now turned to Skype to video my son when not with me during the week.

My first Apple device and really wondering if they are worth the price/hype.

Not anymore. There is no help or fix from apple and you are left to your own devices searching on the internet. Not impressed by apple's last few years of buggy software releases. I am a die hard apple fan but this has left a bad taste in my mouth about apple products. i am sure they will delete this post as well since i am not giving them five stars. They did it to my last post as well. They do not seem to handle criticism well. I am basically now stuck with a hardware that provides no video at the other end. And they call it a community support forum. Int the last five years these forums has not once helped me with a solution as this thread is a classic example. But they will be on the top of every search engine results.

    Nice post Apple Nerd.....

    Conspiracy...

    Perhaps it's Apples plan....

Maybe disabling FaceTime is part of the upgrade.

They don't want you to be able to use it anymore on

    theit existing products....

As they have something new to launch that they want us to buy???

I'm a bit puzzled,  has someone or Apple support actually resolved this issue ?

As far as I am concerned, I'm on the latest update and it still produces no video at the remote end but I get video at my end.

Worked a treat till upgrade to IOS9 so it can only be one thing.  IOS9 has a bug.

Hi all. Just an update. I wasted my time and took my iPad 4 to an Apple shop who reset it and then got me to Facetime my Mum which worked while I was in the Shop. However it hadn't finished downloading the backup from iCloud while I was there and when it finally completed that later I found Facetime did not work again as obviously the bug had been downloaded from backup later. They said if it didn't work then you would have to reset to new and lose everything as you can't do a backup! I have hung on waiting for more updates to the iOS 9 in the hope they sort this problem out in an update but no it would appear this must be too technical for Apple at this time. I think it is horrendous that they have not addressed this as I see there are several posts relating to this. As lots of you will know it's a lifeline for older relatives to be able to see who they are talking to and this lazy attitude by Apple is actually impacting on people's lives. Shame on you!
