Oct 4, 2015 7:10 AM in response to thomas_r.by 3Aly12,I appreciate the information Thomas. It still doesn't explain why my computer has been acting wacky (i.e. mouse cursor looks like someone else is using it) I know this model had an issue with video and on the recall list- hopefully that will solve it. All my woes happened after my upgrade. TrendMicro did email me saying they got numerous reports and are looking into it. What I don't get is if Apple don't get viruses, why did it quarantine a file it found malicious (no I am not taking about the genieo, but another file)? I got an appointment today and will update everyone here as to what I find out.

Oct 4, 2015 2:22 PM in response to 3Aly12by thomas_r.,The mouse cursor issue is, most likely, a hardware issue with your trackpad. There's no need for a hacker to move your mouse around if they've gotten remote access to your computer. This is almost never a symptom of hacking, and in those rare cases where it is, it's the result of some kind of remote access tool that you have set up on your computer and the hacker has somehow gained access to.
As for some other file that was quarantined, I can't comment without any information about it. I don't see any mention of a file other than the "mrt" file, which is a legit file. What other file was identified, and as what?
You should note that "Apple doesn't get viruses" is a bit of a false statement. It is true in the literal sense, in terms of the literal definition of "virus," and even Windows sees very few viruses these days. However, in the more common usage equating "virus" to the more general term "malware," it is false. Apple certainly can and does get malware. However, from the information you've provided thus far, there is no indication that you have been affected by such.

Oct 4, 2015 5:20 PM in response to thomas_r.by robbski,Well, I thought I'd chime in on this discussion. I just installed El Capitan on my 27" iMac 5K and like the others that run Trend Micro, I also got the message saying it wasn't compatible, so I downloaded the compatible version from TM. I tried to run a scan earlier today, and it was taking FOREVER, so I quit the scan. It did however find 4 threats in the 40% that finished. They were all called 'ADW_OPENCANDY'. Three of them were found in /Volumes/Backup/Backups....' and were 'Unable to Quarantine'. A fourth one said it was 'Quarantined'. It was called 'FreeMakeAudioConverterSetup.exe ({tmp}/OCSetupHlp.dll) and claimed it was found in one of my Documents folders.
I tried to run a quick scan and that was taking forever, too. After quitting this one, it did find the HS_GENIEO.SMJG threat and the response was 'Ignored' instead of quarantine or unable to quarantine. This one was found in /System/Library/CoreServices/MRT.app/Contents/MacOS/MRT.
Who knows what the heck is going on! Based on all of my reading the past couple hours, it sounds like I need to get rid of this Trend Micro BS software? By the way, I haven't encountered any real problems on my iMac over the last couple days after going to El Capitan. My Thunderbolt Display did go gray on me yesterday. That kinda scared me, as that has never happened before. I unplugged it and plugged it right back in, and got my display back.
Thanks in advance for your comments/suggestions!

Oct 4, 2015 6:07 PM in response to robbskiby petermac87,As mentioned, uninstall TrendMicro. It has picked up some piece of a Windows .exe file. There are no threats for Mac. It is a moneymaking, false positives, unnecessary piece of salesmanship.
Cheers

Oct 4, 2015 6:41 PM in response to thomas_r.by 3Aly12,Well the good news is it wasn't a virus. Bad news was it would have set me back $310 had not been for AppleCare. Sad thing is I got my MacBook Pro October 2012 and to date my repairs would have costed me over a grand. Thats insane! My first issue was when my notebook wasn't even 6 months old and it started having missing pixels (that alone was $715)! The guy at Apple said it was Malware. When I asked is it a good idea to have an antivirus he basically said if you want a piece of mind and extra security, I'd go with the big names like Norton. He said stay away from anything that begins with Mac as that's "crap" (his words). As for my trackpad issue, he said the whole panel had to replaced. I even showed him pictures I took of the screen when it messed up. I am greatful it's not a hard disk issue. He said they'll do 72 other tests to determine the overheating issue. My AppleCare runs out in the 28th of this month- talk about luck! I'll be MacBookless for 3-5 days otherwise I could have told you the virus it did find. I am just happy the cursor was going crazy and didn't make me a liar at the Apple Store lol!

Oct 4, 2015 6:41 PM in response to petermac87by robbski,Thanks for the quick response, petermac87. I went ahead and downloaded/ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac and it didn't find any malware or adware on my machine. That whole process took less than 60 seconds. As long as my machine is running fine, can you give me any reason to completely delete/uninstall TM? I'm not gonna freak out over these false/positives that it finds.

Oct 4, 2015 6:48 PM in response to robbskiby 3Aly12,Thats exactly what the guy at the Apple Store did to my MacBook too- no virus or Malware was found. As most suggested here- it is a false positive. I guess the choice is up to you. I personally never had issues until recent and I am confident they will release and update for TM. I'll be keeping mine on (I rather be safe than sorry; especially since I paid for it). I just hope whatever hardware they replace on my MacBook is the end all to all my woes!

Oct 4, 2015 7:02 PM in response to 3Aly12by robbski,Those are my thoughts, too. As long as it isn't affecting the PERFORMANCE of my machines, I paid for it, so just let it run and do its thing, despite the fact that people think it's a complete waste. If somebody has proof that TM is BAD for my computer(s), then I'll gladly remove it.

Oct 4, 2015 8:07 PM in response to 3Aly12by Baker-A,Just to confirm again I also spoke with Apple today and they confirmed it was a "false positive". I'll be turning TM off, if not uninstalling it completely because it's also blocking my internet access and just being a general nuisance. The things you learn hey? Thanks for the advice guys.

Oct 6, 2015 12:25 AM in response to petermac87by Marco.K,Hi Peter, wer bist du eigentlich ?

Oct 6, 2015 1:28 AM in response to petermac87by Marco.K,Hi Peter, who you are ? You have no clue about this topic.
Mac is not 100% safe. If you think so then I am really sorry for you. If someone want to get into your system then he will find a way to get into your system.
When you say there are no malware for Mac, why does Apple has created a malware removal tool ?

Look into this article then you see which vulnerabilties Mac OS X has or had in the past. This to the topic Mac OS X is very safe

So next time think about what you talking about.

See how foolish you are. Where shall we start?
Ah yes, answering me in German when I posted in English.
2. Saying I said there were no Malware Threats for Mac when I said VIRUS THREATS.
3. Malware Removal Tool I posted the link to was not an App made by Apple. And I never claimed it was.
4. Flashback Malware Tool was made ages ago for a reason. Malware, as I said can exist on Macs if you are dumb enough to install it.
5.Next time you think about trolling sites without reading posts and ranting rubbish in two languages, plug your brain in first.
Cheers
