It would be helpful if everyone with this issue goes to Settings/General/About and see how much "Available" memory you have. I'm just following up on a hunch.

So, it was unrelated, and yet I had a similar issue.
Now that I'm back home, and fully connected to my own WiFi, I can see the confirmation email attachments on my iPhone; yet when I was at the hotel in Milwaukee and also connected to WiFi, I couldn't see these on my iPhone, only on my laptop?

Oct 4, 2015 8:04 PM in response to Lawrence Finchby captnfi,My hunch, which I've been stating since day 1, is "not" how much available memory we have on our devices.....it has more to do with the "lack" of memory being allocated by the mail app. Mail app used to allocate over 1 Gb of storage, even if you had no stored messages in any of your folders. Now, with ios9, you can have a hundred messages with attachments in your inbox/sent folders, and the mail app barely allocates 20 Mb of memory...this tells me something ain't right!!

How did you find that out?
Is there a way to increase the allocation?

Oct 4, 2015 8:36 PM in response to schoodleby captnfi,There is no way for a user to allocate memory on the mail app....it's up to the mail app to allocate/deallocate a device's memory when needed.
It's easy to see this...just look in your settings/memory usage area, and monitor the mail app....it's always way down at the bottom of your app list....before ios9, it would be at or very near the top (meaning a high memory allocator).

Oct 4, 2015 10:54 PM in response to LdyGatrby Offiegirl,I had this problem but all I had to do was go into my email settings and put my regular email as the default email. The upgrade had changed all of my settings and it put my icloud email as the default and that is why I couldnt open my attachments.

Oct 4, 2015 10:55 PM in response to captnfiby lipics,I agree with you captnfi, even though I had relatively few emails on my device the memory use was large (440MB), since ios9 its using 33.5MB with no change on quantity of messages.
I have 3.5GB of memory free out of 16GB.

Oct 4, 2015 11:19 PM in response to android soonby Offiegirl,When I upgraded to the iOS 9 I could not send emails to myself from my android cell I will do this on certain things and then I can open them in emails from my ipad and save them. When I done the upgrade I noticed I wasnt getting any mails at all on my ipad so I ended up having to reset all my settings because it had set my icloud email as the default email. I have noticed though before the update that I could not pull up the sent emails and I would have to switch to the icloud sent files to check which ones I sent. This may have been a problem before the iSO9. The last update before this one is when I noticed that the sent messages were not saving but under settings it had also been changed to delete contents after being sent so this may have been changed during the upgrade prior to the iSO 9

Oct 4, 2015 11:38 PM in response to O4aTimtamby Offiegirl,I had a problem with the messages I was sending prior to this update. Only when I could not send/receive email even to myself from my android to later retrieve from my ipad did I notice the settings had been changed and my icloud email has been set as my default email address. The update prior to the iSO 9 may have changed the settings to delete messages as soon as they are sent. This is when I noticed that they were not showing up in my sent folder. I had to change my settings on nearly everything after the iSO9 upgrade.

Oct 4, 2015 11:49 PM in response to Jlkochanby Brantome,Also noticing strange behaviour when i try sending messages between my pop accounts to see if size/ embedded images has an impact. Sometimes I get a message saying that it can't be displayed because it's incorrectly formatted, but if I go to another message and back, it then displays ok.
An aside - didn't you use to be able to use the home page search to find email messages, maybe just by subject, if not content? I went searching for an email but spotlight search showed no results, but I could find it scrolling thru the mail app. I'm on an ipad 3 and can't search inside any third party app - I hope ios9 's enhanced app search hasn't treated mail likewise
