TThe fix suggested works for me but is temporary as the problem recurs. Where is the bug fix, Apple?

iOS 9.0.2 update didn't fix the problem.

The solutions provided in this topic are only temporary. For me they worked for around 5 hours, then without notice or error message, Spotlight search stopped searching contacts. I don't wand to reset my iPhone every 5 hours, so I keep using Contact search instead of spotlight search, but I KEEP SWEARING APPLE COMPANY AND APPLE PROGRAMMERS FOR LEAVING SUCH A BUG IN IOS.

Count me among the many - Spotlight will find the person's name in all my emails.... but not the actual contact.  Restarts, switching things off, etc does not help.  Ridiculous problem to have Apple, if there is one thing spotlight should search is my contacts...

I too had similar problem, tried many of above suggestions... only few contacts were shown.

My issue is fixed by changing the "Sort Order" (Settings\Main,Contacts,Calendars\Sort Order)

    Try it... All the best!

All of the "solutions" offered here work sporadically at best.  On the one hand, I'm glad I'm not alone.  On the other, this is shocking for apple not to have fixed and included in the latest "upgrade" of the operating system.

To everyone: Please report the bug to Apple: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

This way the bug will be more visible to Apple, so they will be force to repair the bug.

Apple employees rarely read topics here, so a post here will not help pushing Apple for a solution.

    Thanks.

    Best regards to everyone

Unlike the suggestions preceding yours, your solution worked for me.

CL Jason.  thanks this is the only one that worked.

Thank you so much. I managed to fix the problem. I did this by going to Settings, General, Spotlight Search, then turning everything off. I then went back to my home screen and into Contacts, Groups, Hide all contacts and hit Done. I quit the application and did a hard reset. Went back into spotlight search under settings and turned on Contacts. waited for about a minute and this fixed the problem.

The problem is I think you'll find that the problem returns after a few days. This fix has worked intermittently for me, but I have to keep repeating it.

I have tried all suggested solutions above but cannot solve my problem. However, I am able to solve the problem by go to Setting->iCloud, then off Contacts sync and turn it on again.

Tried all of the various solutions here - thanks to those who posted them - and the hide all/show all trick worked for a while but has no effect now (since 9.0.2 I think).  Deleting photos attached to contacts is not really a practical solution.

Is this Apple's way of reminding us that the iPhone really is a computer, not a "telephone" for which you would actually need "Contacts"?  This was my principal way to find contact info before ios9, now it takes me two more taps.  Thanks Apple!

Just an idea... I believe than not all IOS 9 users have this bug.

I have all contacts synced with a Gmail account (and not synced with iCloud).

Please post your situation, maybe we can figure out what situation produces this bug.
