If your Wi-Fi is capable of generating a 5 GHz signal, try that.
Restart the computer holding down the command - option/alt - P - R keys before the gray screen appears. Continue to hold until you hear the startup chime for the second time.

Oct 4, 2015 12:41 PM in response to Eric Rootby icydog7,No, I'm referring to the built-in keyboard. Neither is a bluetooth keyboard in proximity. If someone's external keyboard was frozen, wouldn't you think they'd try the built-in keyboard?
I am also running VMWare Fusion. Will try quitting the application before sleeping tonight.
To make clear to others, short periods of sleep do not cause this unresponsiveness.

Also I do have VMware Fusion and this happens only after long sleeps.

I have been in touch With VMWare. I run Fusion 7 which isn't compatible With El Capitan so they suggested an Upgrade to Fusion 8. -

Oct 5, 2015 8:46 AM in response to icydog7by donza82,Same problem here, and also running VMware Fusion 7. You'd expect more than a year of support from non inexpensive product like VMware Fusion...

Oct 6, 2015 11:10 AM in response to donza82by icydog7,I don't experience the freezes when quitting VMWare before sleeping. No way will I spend $50 to upgrade to version 8... I wouldn't be surprised if the purposely orchestrated this.

Oct 6, 2015 11:15 AM in response to donza82by tdsscout,No problems as long as Fusion isn't started.

Oct 17, 2015 2:29 AM in response to jonrfby ronny112,Same problem here also. Did not occur to me that Fusion could be the problem. Really great that you found out about this problem.
