If Apple are saying they know nothing about this, they are lying - there have been MANY contacts with Apple to make them aware and asked them to resolve the matter.

APple will lose many loyal customers if they don't sort this Asap.

Checked all my account with mail definitely a POP Problem as all the emails from my Iphone that now forward to a new added gmail account so I don't lose them have stayed and the pop have been deleted . Will ring up TPG to get a IMAP account at least this will be quicker than waiting for Apple to sort out as it's just getting to messy on my phone now.

We just need to keep pushing in feedback via the official Apple feedback website and engaging with apple support as much as possible providing solid evidence if we want to get the fix into ios9.1. They have just released yet another beta of ios9.1 so it looks like they are getting closer to release. It's therefore really important that we raise this issue up their agenda.

    here's the Apple feedback Link

    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

And here is a link to the apple insider website with news on iOS 9.1

No, unfortunately when I woke up this morning the emails started disappearing again. So now I'm forced to set all of my devices to never delete from the server unless/until I delete from the device and I'll have to manually delete from the server as well as downloading to each device.

    All,

Sorry to dash your hopes but very early in in this iOS 9 pop issue I deleted one of my accounts, went to the BT (uk email provider) and setup the account from scratch using the incorrect password trick to allow the selection of pop vice imap. You will not be surprised to learn that after 24 hours emails started to be replaced by the dreaded "cannot download" message.

Several of you have found ldygatr's post suggesting a fix - on one thread I asked how how it had gone after a day or so and her response is posted above. No fix, same as me. Those of you going down the route of deleting and re-setting up I would ask you to 1. Ensure you have set as pop not imap before posting it as a successful solution and 2. You wait 24 hours before posting it as a success. It's bad enough already without us spoofing each other into chicken bones/ ritual sacrifice solutions that sometimes do more damage than good. We need to be precise with our feedback and produce evidence based responses to Apple to aid / speed the solution.

I had the same problem with mine because I have an android as my cell phone and an ipad. I email myself certain things from phone to my ipad and when I upgraded It was giving me the same message. The upgrade changed all of my settings and had put my icloud email as the default email and that is why I wasnt getting any emails and why I couldnt send any. I just added my regular email as my defaut and its working again.

This is getting ridiculous.  So many emails with important information gone!  My daughter sent me details of her flights to Germany - gone!  A recent purchase receipt, including warranty details - gone. An ATOL document concerning a forthcoming vacation - gone!  I now darent open emails on my iPad because I know they will eventually disappear so exclusively use my laptop which is ok as its IMAP based.  I'm getting really p****d off with Apple!

I Wasn't aware IOS9 is still a Beta version.  I was under the impression the current release (including up-date 9.2)  is the fully released public version!

Aware as I am of giving false hopes -BUT - I think I have resolved the issue (for me anyway on my iPad Air).  I noticed the IMAP details on my iPhone 6 which have been OK all the time, set up a new account on my iPad with the same details as on my iPhone and then made the POP3 account inactive.  It seems to have done the trick (for now at least).  All the emails I thought I had lost are back (going back beyond the download of IOS9), new emails seem to be staying put Too.  I'll let you all know if this is a false solution but it's worth trying as you can always delete any new account set up if it doesn't work.  This may well be the same solution Offiegirl arrived at.  FINGERS CROSSED!

Great! Hopefully this will be the end of your problem! I haven't had any more issues since I changed my settings back to what they were. The email accounts have to be the same and set as the defaults on all the devices to be able to access them. Please let me know if anything else happens. My wifi also started cutting off after a couple of minutes after I would manually cut it back on even when I was browsing the web. All this happened before the email issue. I just cut my Ipad off and then cut it back on and it has been fine since. Just a tip just in case any of you have this issue also.

The email accounts on your devices have to be the same and set as the default. The update is making these email accounts inactive on the devices, (even if it has been a couple of days). I know many of you have checked your settings but make sure the IMAP details on all the devices that you view your emails are the same. If they are not the same and set as default, you will not be able to get into your emails.  Make sure the email address that you have is not been set inactive. I hope this can help and I had to change the settings for my imessage also.

I had the same problem on my ipad air. The update changed all of my settings and I could not open anything. I went to settings and then to mail, contacts, etc I noticed that my icloud email had been selected as my default email and I had to put my yahoo email back as my default. I also changed all the other settings also. You need to select when you want to delete the messages. My settings had changed to delete after they are sent. I use the same account on my android also and I was not getting them on it either. The IMAP account has to be the same on each device that you receive your emails and selected as active and as the default. After I changed these back it has worked great. I had to change it on my imessage setting also. Hope this helps.

I have Verizon also and on my Android I am using a smtp for the outgoing and imap as the incoming This is the same email I use on my IPad and the server on my IPad is SMTP The update put my icloud email as my primary instead of my yahoo email so i changed yahoo to my primary and you have go in the advanced mail and make sure the surver is on. My yahoo server had been turned off after the update. It happened about 2 days after the update. Once I done that I was able to see the email that had attachments before the update. You will need to change when you want them to delete also. My sent messages was set to delete immediately after being sent and the inbox to be deleted immediately after being opened. I hope this helps
