I also had this problem. It was eventually tracked down to an email being sent to multiple addresses, created in Mailshot Pro on iPad. By switching off wifi as described here, I was eventually able to keep mail open long enough to locate the email in my "outbox" and delete it. That fixed it. I don't know if it's the multiple addresses or the original app that has caused the issue.

Not exactly deleting the mentioned file, but just updating GPGMail through (GPGPreferences) solved my problem. GPGMail's before version (2.5.1) was not El Capitan ready it seems, now i have 2.6b2 and it seems to be working!

What can I do if I can't even open the Preferences of Mail? And I have no window at all.

Many thxs BartoloTX. Works for me!

Altough I had to disable my only exchange account because your patch was not working with this account enabled.

After disabling, Mail works fine. I think the problem, at least for me, is the exchange account.

    10x

I cannot receive email consistently—only after restarting the computer, and then it only works until the computer goes to sleep. This issue began with 10.11. I can always receive email on the iPhone, but not computer.
