Oct 5, 2015 11:16 AM in response to nucleardirkby narration_asd,hallo, nucleardirk. But unfortunately, it' snot only non-US locations which have this difficulty.
in fact, that may be a separate or additional problem.
jcdueck, I also agree that installing via another program is unlikely to give the version of iTunes which has the latest security fixes we are all interested in.
i still think Yoda_Phone's solution, just above, is the safest method so far, and it worked easily here.
You might also need to do as nuclear dirk suggests if 'overseas' or over border (I am listening to pleasant Mexican morning music here).

Good call. Yeah it's not the most current version. Should've checked that first. Thanks for the correction.

Oct 6, 2015 1:55 AM in response to jcdueckby jjj4444,Hello
I have today installed version 7.7.8 (1680.95.71) without any problems. Before that, I uninstalled 7.7.7. I guess, it's possible now because of latest update to my Windows 10 (KB3093266). I haven't researched whether that's the reason.
Both Quicktime and Windows is in Danish versions.
Regards
Jesper

So was the "culprit" M$ rather then Apple ?

Oct 9, 2015 9:04 PM in response to donawaltby narration_asd,Just to say, this new download version from Apple installed fine here also, and gave me the same 7.7.8 up-to-date version of QuickTime as the one carved up by simplest method per Yoda_Phone.
Nice they have done this.
But not yet changed the website to include Windows 8, 8.1, or 10, last of which I am using.
I think I've stopped my web browsers from accessing it; needed just for some multimedia development tools that borrow its function, and those are important.

Oct 10, 2015 4:49 AM in response to NoOne60by tns42,No it was Apple's error in not accepting windows 10. What Microsoft did was change the Microsoft Installer to recognize the Quicktime installer and tell it that it was in windows 7 mode.

Oct 10, 2015 5:14 AM in response to NoOne60by Yoda_Phone,i'm sorry to bust "blame Microsoft" game. They have nothing to do with this. this is clearly something Apple has to correct, its the manifest file, that the installer uses to check for OS Version & its clearly blocked by Apple. just modify the file as i'd said before & you're good to go.

Oct 10, 2015 8:33 AM in response to Yoda_Phoneby narration_asd,Yes, Yoda_Phone, I agree.
Apple was at fault rather than Microsoft this time.
And your method that helped us until they fixed it proves so.

Jan 3, 2016 7:47 PM in response to Keith Weissharby Panfeng,I just did, 7.7.8 installed on windows 10, no problem during the installation and no problem when running quicktime. Maybe it's a bug with the locale setting? Try US/ENG.

Jan 16, 2016 12:27 PM in response to Panfengby KZJIPAD,I have been reading the posts because I just purchased new machine with Windows 10 and had same problem - not being able to download Q/T on my new machine with Windows 10. I just up on Apple site and noticed there is a version 7.7.9 now. So I took a chance and downloaded it on to my Windows 10 machine. Download was perfect and running perfect. I don't know if I was just lucky or if Apple fixed something. I am not a computer geek so maybe just got lucky.

Jun 30, 2016 1:09 PM in response to Keith Weissharby Jimmy the Sponge,Apple is deprecating QuickTime for Microsoft Windows. They will no longer be issuing security updates for the product on the Windows Platform and recommend users uninstall it. Note that this does not apply to QuickTime on Mac OSX.
See http://blog.trendmicro.com/urgent-call-action-uninstall-quicktime-windows-today/ for details.
