Q: Can't access iBooks in El Capitan...

So far adjusting to all the MANY changes but just got the following message...

iBooks Can't Access Your Library

Make sure the disk containing your library is connected, then click Try Again.

Library Location: (null)

You can also reset your library, then sign in to view and re-download your purchased books.

Any workaround or should I just wait for Apple update??

Upgrading to El Capitan I was asked to sign into my iCloud account, did you do the same?

Yes I did..everything else seems to be working fine...Photos, iTunes etc...

Did some research and this was an issue for some in recent Gold Master version of El Capitan as recent as two weeks ago..

    BTW thanks for reply!!

Bummed to hear your having the same problem but given that we're not alone (probably thousands with the same issue) there should be a fix coming soon. Thxs for chiming in, hopefully others will as well!

Re: ibook issue on imacin response to Gnlchef

Please read this whole message before doing anything.

    Back up all data.

Quit iBooks if it's running. Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already taken. Stop when the problem is resolved. Quit iBooks again before going on to the next step.

    Step 1

Hold down the option key and select Go Library from the Finder menu bar. From the Library folder, move the following item, if it exists, to the Trash:

              Cookies/com.apple.ibooks.cookies

    Step 2

Delete this item in the same way:

              Preferences/com.apple.ibooks.plist

    Step 3

    Delete this item:

              Containers/com.apple.iBooksX

and move this one to the Desktop:

              Containers/com.apple.BKAgentService

Restart the computer. To log out and log back in is not enough—you must restart.

When you launch iBooks, you'll be prompted to reset the library. Confirm. The library will be empty. Rebuild it by downloading your purchases from the iBooks Store and importing any other content you added. You may find the added content in the folder named "com.apple.BKAgentService" that you moved to the Desktop.

Did it delete all your data on the computer?

    Same problem here

Unfortunately all my manuals I use for work are gone

This is really bad. At least I noticed it before being onsite.

While the above solution may work I am a bit reluctant to fiddle around deleting and moving stuff. In my opinion Apple should provide a fix. After all it is their product.

In the meantime I have to spam my own mailbox sending me all the docs I used to have on the iPad again. Why? Because after a regular sync the contents (iBook) on the iPad are gone too. Really cool. Something I could do without. Rather than having millions (?) of people wasting their time getting things working again Apple should help their customers and dedicate a few hours on this problem.

Your stuff is there all intact....its a pain to load it back in but I do have my whole library back. Just follow instructions, I had a pretty good collection so it took me about an hour. The fix itself takes 5 minutes to reset.

    Thanks LWII

my stuff is accessible again in iBooks on my Mac.

Still struggling to sync all books back to my iPad. Emailing the docs to myself and then opening them in iBooks on my iPad is not really an option.
