Q: iphone 5s 16GB suddenly has no free memory- why?

I had about 600M free last time I checked (not long ago) - last night I got the low memory warning - was initially 30m then 15m, now zero! is this something to do with 9.0.2 which is now prompting me to install? I haven't installed as I was waiting for 9.1 (I'm still running 7.1.2 due to 8 requiring huge amounts of free memory to install).

I haven't downloaded any videos or anything else that would take a lot of memory

any insight gratefully received!

update- it appears the 'other' storage category is where the increase has come - now up to nearly 5GB. Come on guys- help me out here! ;-)

5 GB of 'other' is too much. Normally it should be less than 2 GB. This usually indicates corrupted data. Back it up, then restore it, and then reload the backup. This is how I reduce the large amount of 'other' on my devices. I should add that the restore will install the latest iOS version.

thanks for that; I am backing up to laptop as per normal but- the backup appears to have stalled at the end of 'syncing step 2 from 4' . The little wheel is spinning in iTunes and on the phone but nothing else seems to happening...

update- problem now solved (at least for now....) as per here How do I get rid of "other" storage ie it was the 9.0.2 upgrade that had downloaded itself but not been activated by me - once actually installed I am back to 2.5GB...as I say - for now...
