Q: My iPhone 6s home button is really hot and the device won't turn on

i have had my phone since Friday, and this morning when I woke up the home button was burning hot and the screen is just black. I went to bed with it working just fine last night, plugged it in to charge, and now it won't work. Nothing else is hot, not even the charging port, just the home button is on fire. I have had the phone unplugged for an hour and the button is still on fire.  I had just made the choice to switch from a Samsung to this iPhone and need to say it makes me slightly regret my choice because I have always known that apple products have tons of issues. I an not happy that I have had this phone for less than 5 days and this is happening. Anyways, is there anything i can do to fix it without having to go into the apple storeI did not finish setting up my iCloud, so to lose all of information because of a defective phone will not make me happy.

I experienced this problem whilst using 9.0.2. This disproves the hypothesis that 9.0.2 solves the underlying problem.

I am taking my phone back to Verizon today.  I have been searching the web and there are numerous reports of this happening.  The articles advise returning the device and exchanging it for a new one.

I am  having the same issue here with iPhone 6S Plus  128GB, iOS 9.0.2. Screen randomly goes blank and cannot turn on with a simple power button. Home button/Touch ID gets really hot. Require to hold both power and home button for 10 seconds while connected to power.  This has only happened at night when it has been on the charger for several hours.

    Yes,

It had gone with same issue with me as well.

My iPhone6s just bought a week back. After dropping a message to my friend i put it on charge that time battery was 28%.

When i picked after 25 or 30 minutes, it got off.. i tried to make it on however no clue.

When i touched the Home button it was bad hot.

I kept it in pocket and rush to work, thought to contact apple later sometime.

when i went through this forum and tried with the given trick to push home and power button together, it got on and button got cool same time.

However it seems issue in iPhone6s, i will visit to support team soon.

I just got my new i phone 6s in rose gold. Second day my phone was being unresponsive. I couldn't open my apps. I turned my phone off and turned it back on . That seem to work. The third day I wasn't able to slide my finger to unlock my phone it was being unresponsive. Luckily, I heard that if you press the home button and the turn off/on button at the same time till a white screen with the apple icon pops will do the trick. It did work for a couple hours but starts acting up again!! Its very frustrating!!! Sometimes I cant answer my calls. The home button over heats as well!!! I already been to 4 Verizon they seem to be sold out on the rose gold. However, I did make an appointment with apple for this week. I'm really bummed because I'm an apple person and I never had any bad experience with them. Is anyone experiencing this?

I exchanged my iPhone for a new one.  Unfortunately, Rose Gold was on back order.  So I settled for just plain gold.  If you are in the 14 day window I suggest you take it back to exchange it for a new one.

BTW, I just confirmed my 6s+ that's overheating all the time uses the crappy Samsung chip.

You can check this by installing 'Lirum Info Lite' or similar from the app store and checking to see if the CPU model only has a single N, if it only has one then I'm sorry to say that it's a Samsung.

UPDATE 9/30/15: Replaced iPhone 6s 16GB,  with hot home button and mysterious shut down issue, with a 6s 64GB through T-Mobile store. Restored new 64GB 6s via iTunes backup, after installing IOS Public Beta profile. No problems at all experienced while running IOS 9.1 PB 3. Now running on IOS 9.1 PB 4 since 10/6/15, also without experiencing any further problems. Additionally, I confirmed that the 64GB 6s is running the TMSC-made A9 chip (http://www.iphonehacks.com/2015/09/how-to-identify-if-iphone-6s-has-a-tsmc-or-sa msung-a9-chip.html). However, I never confirmed which A9 chip was in the 16GB 6s with the hot home button/shut down issue.

Has anyone made any hot home button/shut down issue correlation between the TSMC-made A9 chip vs the Samsung A9 chip? Noting that correlation does not necessarily equal causation ... I am just curious. Apple still has not formally acknowledged this issue.

Mine has the Samsug chip and has been experiencing the issue.  Having a new one shipped, I will check that one once I receive it.

I was in class today, phone was almost fully charged. I was listening to the teacher when I wanted to see what time is it on my iPhone 6S 64 GB. I found out that it was shut down and the Touch ID button was freaking hot. Since I was in class, I waited for it to be over before actually taking a look at what was happening to my phone. The button was even hotter than when I first touched it during the lecture. I don't know what is going on and if I should return it to the store, but that bugged me.

Updated to 9.0.2 and hasnt happened since... Also I just checked and I have the TMSC chip, so problem seems to be happening to both Samsung and TMSC variants of the A9 chip according to other posts here...

My phone turned off and the home button was hot this morning. I missed my alarm. I had overheating issues as well prior to this with normal use. This article helped me turn my phone back on today. Something is definitely wrong with my phone. I get to get it replaced with a new one. I can't just wait for the next time it happens over and over again. My new phone shouldn't be doing this! So frustrating!

How do you check if you have that chip?
