Q: Stop iCal Autocomplete in location field when creating an appointment?

I often have teleconferences that I need to schedule on my calendar. Thus, I need to put a the teleconference number and pin into the location field of the meeting invite instead of an address. The iCal autocomplete feature does not know how to deal with this as it is searching for an address - which in itself is somewhat annoying because it's simply too slow!

It takes too long and is very annoying adversely affecting my productivity every time I schedule a teleconferene. Is there any way to disable this feature off please?

I have this problem as well - please at least add an option in iCal->Preferences to turn off the location Auto-complete feature.  At least once per day I leave a meeting location as "TBD" and if I forget to hit "Esc" it autocompletes to some "TBD Corp" in Illinois.

I can't stand this feature either. The location of many of my meetings aren't street addresses, but buildings within a complex and room numbers. The program keeps changing them to places in Japan and Indonesia and other countries. Even after I delete the program's selection it keeps reappearing. I wish there was a way to disable it.

As a temporary solution, you could always put the number and pin in the "notes" field rather than the location field. That's what I do for conference calls.

Count me in. Its absurd this junk is stamped APPROVED at all, at any point, with something as blatant and egregious as this issue. It would take Steve Jobs a nanosecond to decimate the fool who submitted the latest ical "revision." I find ICAL to be one of apple's worst programs. Well, that was until I opened my iPhone and tried the new MUSIC app they are pushing. Oh. My. God. it was the most overly complex disgusting mess of a program that tries to be comprehensive at the expense of user friendliness. Steve, may you rest in piece; we will always know you were the single, lone hand behind the creation of everything we love (lovED) about Apple.

Input the correct location in the autocompletion screen and click DONE.  This should transfer your typed location back to the calendar entry screen.

My workaround for this ridiculous "feature" is to continue typing the location into the New Event window, then cut and past it to the location field, thinks about it for a few seconds, then just accepts it without trying to change it. Ahhh!

I mean seriously did apple actually think they could predict where i am going faster than I can type it? As mentioned I would love to know what calendar app apple employees use?

This has been driving me up a wall for quite awhile.  After reading this page, I went to Apple "help" with Calendar.  The only thing I could find was this comment directly from Apple:

    "

Q: Calendar won't locate the address of my meeting, what do I do?

    10. Maps needs Wi-Fi in order to note your location. Perhaps this is why when we had Wi-Fi switched off (or we were sharing our internet connection with another device), Calendar seemed to be unable to provide locations. We suggest making sure Wi-Fi is on when you attempt to add event details. "

One of the folks here suggested that he turned off the wi-fi and then it would work OK...so maybe this means we really do need to disable the wi-fi while we're making calendar entries.  What a pain!  But, if it works, why not try that anyway.  It would take about the same amount of time as trying to get a location entry in! (If you do a bunch of entries at the same time, this would work pretty well.)

This is the most frustrating glitch, I cannot even tell you.

I always want to input a phone number, after the address, just in case I need to call -- it's very handy.

If you put the phone number in the actual name of the event, you can't click to call from an iphone -- it has to go under the address.

The only thing I have found that works is hitting tab as fast as you f**king can so that it doesn't have time to catch up OR try putting in the phone number AHEAD of the address and then it's too confused to suggest an address.

It is absolutely ridiculous that this is even an issue. Get it together, Apple.

While I'm ranting, can we please get the toggle arrows back on iPhone's notes app and the ability to double click top of iTunes to minimize??

    <end rant>

I would like to have input on the product manager for iCal.  This auto fill problem is completely bush league.  I can't imagine Apple let it out the door.

I can't believe I'm saying these words, but I think I'm going to have to check out Outlook.  I think I just threw up a little.

Dear God, I use iCal all the time for everything. Meetings, phone call reminders, to do's, you name it. And everytime I want to add a note to the location field I get upset. Not once has an autocomplete suggestion made any sense at all. Every suggestion is out of any context and entirely useless. And even worse: if you don't pay attention, after you have made your proper note, autocomplete might suggest and apply something which you don't take notice of and you will save the iCal entry with a false location that you didn't get to opt out because autocomplete was a milisecond faster than you saving your iCal entry.

Why in the world does it have to be like this? It's even more ridiculous on the iPhone as you can't just click ESC. And I mainly use iCal on the phone as I don't carry my laptop with me all the time.

Do Apple employees use iCal themselves? How can they not be bothered by such a disfunctional programming? It used to be so much better before this feature was implemented. If only someone out there cared.
