Q: is this website apple's official one?

Dear all,

I lost my iPhone6 Plus at Kuala Lumpur on 30/09/2015. And I immediately set the lost phone as "lost mode" on my iPad mini 3. And ever since that, I found my phone was always offline.

But after I retuned to Sydney, tonight I received a message from appleinc.eu@icloud.com, which claimed that my lost phone has been found, and asked me to claim it at http:/icloud.fr.

After I open this URL on my Mac, I found actually it redirected to http://icioud.co.nr/ (attention, it's "icioud", not "icloud"!). I didn't realise this until I input my apple id and password, then I reset my password at once thru my email.

I'm afraid I was cheated by the false message. Can anyone tell me what i should do next?

Thanks in advance!

Regards,

Karl

Notify your carrier to have the phone's EMEI blocked and SIM deactivated.

If the phone did not have a passcode you should change the passwords for any mail accounts used on the phone.

You're not going to get the phone back, but you wouldn't have even if you didn't go to that fake website.  The message you got means that a crook had the phone, not someone who would be willing to help return it.  Giving the password to the fake site means the phone can be activated, but the EMEI block may limit its usefulness.

iCloud.com is apple's official webside. However i visited the website you mentioned here which seems similar to icloud.com

one thing which makes it doubtful is that it is not a secured website starting from https:// so this is not a trusted website to me.

https://www.icloud.com/    this is apples offical icloud website.

all trusted and secured websites start from https://

Further, your lost iphone can be activated using your apple ID so better get the IMEI and IMSI blocked by calling your operator or in some countries calling the controlling authority of cellular network providers.

Thank for your prompt reply, Malcolm and irfan204.

Yes, I have set the passcode and Touch ID of my lost phone. And I also sent "erase data" request from "Find iPhone" after I lost my phone.

Unfortunately, while I visited Kuala Lumpur, I just used the prepaid SIM from Tune Talk. And after I finished the SIM card installation, I just threw the package away. So currently I don't have any IMEI and IMSI. But I still keep the formal receipt from Sydney's Apple shop and the iPhone box.

Latest update: just now I checked "Find My iPhone" and found the lost phone already disappeared from the all devices list :-(

Doest it mean my lost phone has been activated and all data has been erased from it?

This may help with the IMEI

    https://support.apple.com/HT204073

If you had a good passcode (and especially if the Erase Data switch was on), your data is safe.  The fact that its gone from Find-My-iPhone means it can be activated, but no data on the phone can be accessed without the passcode.  (At some point those fake sites may start asking for the passcode as well as the Apple ID and password, but currently they seem to be after the phones, not data.)

Apple does not track, search for, find or return lost or stolen devices - If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is lost or stolen - Apple Support and https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204315

In fact, Apple, like most companies, does not get involved at all if your device is lost or stolen. So any email you receive like that should be immediately suspect and ignored.  Also, as mentioned, Apple's iCloud web site is an https:// secure web address
