Q: Using my phone number on my mac for iMessage under El Capitan

Hi everyone,

Since I upgraded my MacBook Pro to El Capitan, I'm not able to use my phone number to send iMessage from my mac. When I go to the preferences of my account, it is activated and work correctly, but it says I can only be reached from my different email adresses and my phone number does not appear on that list. When I was on Yosemite, I had no problems and my phone number appeared in that list. I don't know if it's really related to El Capitan or if something is desactivated somewhere.

I still send and receive iMessage with my phone number from my iPhone, so all my conversations with my friends are related to my phone number.

I already tried to desactivate my account on my mac and reactivate it. I did the same thing on my phone but nothing change.

Can you help me find a solution to send and receive my iMessage on my MBP with my phone number ?

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11)

    Hello Cocs59,

Thank you for becoming a member of the Apple Support Communities and we appreciate you taking the time to create your first post!

If the communication is not working as expected between your iPhone and Mac for Messages using Continuity, please follow the steps in the attached article to ensure it is set up properly.

    SMS

With Continuity, all the SMS and MMS text messages you send and receive on your iPhone also appear on your Mac, iPad, and iPod touch. Even if the person you’re communicating with doesn’t have an iPhone. And regardless of what phone they have, you can reply from whichever device is closest to you, including your iPad or Mac. You can also initiate a  conversation by clicking a phone number in Safari, Contacts, or Calendar.

To use Continuity for SMS and MMS with your iPhone and your Mac, iPad or iPod touch

Your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch need to use iOS 8.1, and your Mac needs to use OS X Yosemite.

    1. Sign in to iMessage on your iPhone, your other iOS devices, and your Mac using the same Apple ID.
    2. On your iPhone: Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > You Can Be Reached By, and add a check to both your phone number and email address. Then, go to Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding, and enable the device(s) you would like to forward messages to.
    3. Your Mac, iPad, or iPod touch will display a code. Enter this code on your iPhone to verify the SMS feature.

Use Continuity to connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac - Apple Support

We invite you to reply and let us know if these steps were helpful or if you need to provide further information about the situation. We’re glad that you’re a part of the Apple Support Communities and can’t wait to hear more from you! :)

    Have a great day!

You should be able to add it as an e-mail address.
