Is your watch connected to power, and does it have over 50% charge?

Yes it's on the charger and the phone is at OS 9.0.1 as well.

And does it (the watch) also have 50% or more charge?

One thing to try is to force quit the Watch app on the iPhone and try to start the installation again. To force quit, double press the home button, and swipe upward on the screen showing the Watch app.

Restarted watch app and waited for it to show an update which then shows the verifying screen and the gear on the face watch isn't turning.

(IF YOU ARE HAVING TROUBLE INSTALLING OS 2, DO THIS:)

    1. If you have not previously done so, update your iPhone to OS9.
    2. Reboot your iPhone by holding the power and home buttons for 10 seconds.  Wait a few seconds and then power it back on.
    3. Navigate to Settings > General > Reset and choose Reset Network Settings.  (This will restore the factory network settings on your iPhone.)
    4. Connect your iPhone to its charger, establish a good internet connection and keep it close to your Apple Watch for the entire process.
    5. Be sure your Apple Watch is charged to 50% or more and that it is connected to its charger.  (Even if the Apple Watch is 100% charged, it must remain on its charger until the installation process has been completed.)
    6. Reboot your Apple Watch by holding both the Digital Crown and the side button down for 10 seconds.  The Apple logo will appear on the display.
    7. If prompted to do so, enter your four-digit passcode for accessing your Apple Watch.
    8. On your iPhone, select the Apple Watch app and go to Settings > General > Software Update to start the process.
    9. After installation has progressed through “Preparing” and “Verifying” (something that could take an hour or more), the installation of OS 2 on your Apple Watch will begin automatically.

As soon as you see a circular progress indicator starting to move clockwise around the Apple logo displayed on your Apple Watch, you’ve got another 15 or 20 minutes to go.

NOTE:  It may be necessary to repeat Steps 8 and 9 several times.  To be sure that this worked, check your Apple Watch (Settings > General > About and scroll down to Version) or open the Apple Watch App on the iPhone and go to Settings > General > Software Update.   If you see “OS 2.0”, congratulations!

Thanks for the reply, I've talked with support and  they had me do exactly that. So I can say it works.

Had the exact same problem, repeatedly failing at Verify.  This fix worked for me first time.  Thank you.

This fix worked for me as well. I had one extra step, however. I have a Nomad pod charging unit and had to disconnect it and plug the Apple charging cord directly into an Apple AC charger (and plug that into the wall outlet) in order to complete the update.
