Dec 18, 2015 12:21 PM in response to preciousfromjohannesburgby nigeln,I had a similar problem when I tried to install the latest update of El Capitan. The install reboot hung after installing the upgrade and the computer shut down after the progress bar had advanced about 2/3. After an hours telcos trying various boot options with Apple support, I ended up having to reinstall my latest time machine backup.
The two lessons I have learnt is a) do a time machine backup before installing an OS and b) use a cable internet connection to download any new OS programs.
