Q: Album artwork removed after iOS 8.4 update

My iPod has been updated to iOS 8.4 and all my album artwork has been removed; multiple resyncs hasn't rectified the issue either. Any idea how to get my album artwork to show again on my iPod?

Thanks

iPod touch, iOS 8.4

You should run Apple. This worked for me as well. Thanks for the info.

Lol awww you're too sweet. I'm just happy I could help. I pray iOS 9 fixes these issues as well as the missing "__of__ song" feature.

I have done this twice (day to reload my 25,000 songs) and every time I sync again with iTunes the artwork is deleted from my iPhone 6 128G

Never have a problem with my iPod Classic... why can't they fix this?

Strongly considering throwing out my iPhone.  The 128G upgrade is not worth the hassle of album art problems.

@Gaffjack: I don't know if you have iTunes Match or Apple Music but I would disable both features on the iPod as well as in preferences on iTunes. Make sure your library on iTunes has the correct tags and album artwork. It was tedious but when tagging make sure the "artist " and "composed by field" are identical. If you want to leave the composer field blank then do so but make sure "artist" and "album artist" are the same. Then try deleting one of the songs on your ipod then re-sync it from iTunes. I hope this works. 25,000 is a huge library. I feel your grief. Just something I noticed, sometimes computers and our devices can't handle a lot of changes at one time. Try a few songs at a time. Delete a few maybe about 50-100 at a time from the ipod then re-sync and see what happens. I really hope this works. If I come across another solution I will keep you (as well as others) updated.

The correlation I have found, as this has been happening to me since, I think iOS 7, is that occasionally iTunes will "refresh" the default artwork displayed in the music app on iPhone/iPod.

If you've ever noticed, album art you have isn't necessarily what is displayed when viewing by artist, sometimes it's a group or artist shot. When this is changed or refreshed, the artwork on your phone is removed and sometimes doesn't sync back immediately.

I have music from CDs and Amazon, that all have artwork, that as of this morning do not.  The artwork for a few albums was there yesterday, I'm sure, as I was listening to the albums. But after a sync last night, the album I was in the middle of listening to yesterday afternoon, now has no artwork. The album has been in my library for five years, with artwork. Again, this is nothing new but it's total garbage.

I fail to see how removing all music and re-syncing is even remotely a resolution when it happens repeatedly and is a complete waste of time to begin with. I have 60GBs of music on a 128GB device, how is this an answer?

Re-syncing without removing your music will replace the artwork eventually. But iTunes randomly removing your artwork because they have made the artwork portion of iTunes dynamic is a complete hassle and total garbage design. If they see fit to dynamically update your purchased album art, they should also figure a way to determine if you've set specific artwork for your music or have obtained the music elsewhere and if it has it's own artwork already.

It seems the default is to, randomly, remove all artwork, download the updated stuff from iTunes, which is only displayed on the device and not iTunes itself and then carry on. The sync never puts back what artwork you may have for CD/Amazon/Bandcamp etc.

My new iPod Touch 6 was working fine yesterday...updated the OS 9.3 and it mixed all my artwork.  So I restored and then turning on Airplane Mode, I synched and since Airplane Mode prevents the iPod from communicating with the iTunes Store, it only synched my library artwork.  As an added measure, I temporarily disconnected from my home Wi-Fi to make sure there is no communication.  For a 70 year old low-tech guy like me, I find it hard to come up with fixes to these everychanging iTunes and iPod updates.  The only good thing is iTunes 12 is easy for me to navigate but I do miss Cover Flow.  Anyway, I solved the habit of Apple giving me their boxed set artwork and keeping my own during the synching process.  Good luck.

I Using iOS 9.3.3. I just restored to a new Apple Air 2. A lot of Album artwork was missing. The Solution -

i found every album without artwork had dimmed songs which did not download. When I removed these the artwork re-appeared because the link was established with the downloaded songs ( in bold ). I am sure I can download the missing songs from iTunes now.   Hope this helps.
