Oct 9, 2015 5:17 AM in response to Grassy1979by Jay Hill,I'm getting the same issue with my iPhone 6s. I've restarted the app, the laptop and the phone multiple times but the photos don't show in Photos....
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Oct 9, 2015 5:52 AM in response to Jay Hillby Jay Hill,I should clarify, the photos don't show as being on the device (iPhone 6s or Nikon D60 camera) and therefore can't be imported into Photos.
So far El Capitan has been a poor update with more undesirable surprises popping up here and there since the update.

Oct 10, 2015 6:00 PM in response to Grassy1979by GregHankins,Same problem here, though with an iPhone 4s and iPad Mini, with running the current version of IOS. Neither Photos nor Image Capture displays the photos on the device, so they can't be imported (or deleted) using either app.

Oct 11, 2015 11:22 AM in response to Jay Hillby Jay Hill,I'm thinking this may be an issue with the current versions of iOS and El Capitan and or have something with a lot of photos on the iPhone. My Nikon D60 camera is recognized and the photos show up and can be imported. However, the iPhone 6s does not show any pictures. If I quit Photos and plug the phone in, Photos launches, recognizes the phone, selects it but doesn't show a single photo. I have about 400+ photos on the phone, many part of multiple "burst" shots. I've not found a way to get the photos off. I was hoping to get a number of photos off and see if Photos would again show the remaining pictures. But my 2011 Macbook Pro can't launch Air Drop or at least can't show the phone and the phone can't see the laptop. I'm guessing this is due to the older Bluetooth on the laptop. I tried to email some of the burst photos but only one gets sent from the device. I was able to offload a number of photos from the iPhone after El Capitan was released but experienced this issue recently so am wondering if there's something happening with a large number of pictures.

Oct 11, 2015 12:13 PM in response to Jay Hillby GregHankins,No such luck with my Canon EOS Rebel SL1. No photos displayed in either photos or image capture. Both worked fine with the camera under Yosemite.

Oct 11, 2015 12:18 PM in response to Jay Hillby Jay Hill,Even though I'd rebooted the phone and laptop a number of times, somehow after rebooting today, lo and behold, Photos can now see my photos. I have no idea why it's working now. Apparently, it's not related to the number of photos. Very weird.

Oct 11, 2015 12:57 PM in response to GregHankinsby Jay Hill,You're welcome Greg. It's really weird. I'm not sure why this restart worked when others didn't. I even rebuilt the Photos library yesterday with no luck. But maybe rebuilding the library database and rebooting a couple times did the trick. But I don't know what actually did the trick. Wish I knew... Good luck!

Oct 11, 2015 2:45 PM in response to GregHankinsby GregHankins,In explicably, I just had much the same thing happen that Jay Hill reported. Plugging in my iPhone, which had yielded no opportunity to import photos in the past, suddenly revealed photos to import. Ditto with my iPad.
I think there is possibly some flakiness with the bits of El Capitan that deal with USB interactions, but that's just a guess.
I did find that my phone responded when I unlocked it from the splash screen and entered the password BEFORE plugging in the USB adaptor. However, my iPad, which had also not worked previously, responded when I plugged in the adaptor first, and then logged into the pad.
Go figure.

Oct 26, 2015 9:25 AM in response to Grassy1979by Mad Dog The Englishman,I am in a similar situation...
Nikon Transfer was working perfectly, now after latest El Capitan update 10.11.1 It will not recognise my D60, tried upgrading to Nikon ViewNX 2 but the software will not install, just hangs at the addition installs stage.
To my knowledge this was working when I originally upgraded to El Capitan (One of the few things that did amusingly) so I'm guessing it's maybe a version problem within El Capitan but if anyone has a workaround other than using photos I'd love to hear it

Nov 4, 2015 11:05 AM in response to Grassy1979by Vincent Marks,★HelpfulHello.
Find your IMAGE CAPTURE.app
Open FinderSelect Applications
Find Image Capture.app
Open it up.
Connect a digital camera or insert an SD CARD.
At the bottom left of Image Capture there will be an up arrow, click that.
In the image below is my setup for the camera.
Yours will probably read the memory card name.Good Luck.

Nov 15, 2015 10:55 AM in response to Mad Dog The Englishmanby Photog17,This happened to me too. I tried to install ViewNX 2 but it just hangs. I was doing this since Bridge CS6 no longer can import photos since El Capitan.
My workaround: I just use Image Capture to import the photos . I can then use Bridge for whatever else.

Nov 18, 2015 2:45 PM in response to Grassy1979by richle,Seems it's Nikon who's let us all down here, but then i don't make any effort to keep up with their software.
SOLUTION:
Nikon "Capture NX-D" seems to be the replacement for the old "Nikon Transfer" that I'd been using reliably for so many years... even with my now old D60 (still love my D60)! Here's the link to download for El Capitan:
http://downloadcenter.nikonimglib.com/en/download/sw/31.html
Hmmm... seems to have hung on 'additional installation'... and i have to run now! Agh! will continue trying to install later
Hope this helps someone!
