Q: I can't transfer Apple Music to iPod Nano

I started Apple Music trial, and I added some songs to My Music library, when I connect my iPod Nano 7g and try to sync. It says that song was not copied to the iPod because it is a subscription item.

It is supposed that I can play them offline, right?

iPod nano, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4), null

I have an early iPod nano and it seems to be blocking my ability to sync songs from my computer. I am not a part of apple music, and a lot of those songs were from my original cd's. I never purchased, online, many of the songs that won't sync!

    What now?!

Then your question has nothing to do with the subject of this thread and you should start your own thread where you will be more likely to get an answer. You should give full details of the iPod model and your operating system otherwise answers can be only guesswork.

I just bought a nano.  Apple Music and Family sharing both don't work - essentially makes the product useless for me to give to my son who ai bought it for.  Why to apple continue to sell a useless product with no warnings.  i have all apple products and this makes me want to stop having them - can I get a refund - no siree.  You opened the box!  its a cheek to sell this product.

As had been discussed at great length in this thread Apple Music, which is a rental service, cannot be accessed on a Nano because it has no internet connection. Apple have made this quite clear in their documentation for Apple Music.

As to Family Sharing you should be able to copy songs from your iTunes Library into your son's, then he can download them into the Nano in the usual way. Please see this Apple Help page:

HI Roger - thanks for the help - he sharing does not help with the error message sadly.  I already read your comments about why apple music does not work and fully understand, however apple do not advertise this fact abs promote apple music with a picture of a nano - this is misleading.   I guess essentially I wasted 120 pounds ams should have bought an iPod touch.  Basically very disappointed with Apple approach to this.  Edward

Looking at the 'Music' page they promote Apple Music in the top several sections, then go on to iTunes and then the iPod, showing all its versions in the picture. Strictly they are not actually promoting the Nano in connection with Apple Music but the way it's done is ambiguous and it's easy to see how it can be misinterpreted.

If you bought your Nano from an Apple Store you could try taking it back and asking to talk to the manager: point out that the advertising is ambiguous and led you to believe that the Nano could do something it in fact can't. If you can't exchange it for a Touch that way you could try escalating the issue if you've got the energy.

To be clear bout the iPod Touch - it can access Apple Music online, and download for offline listening. What you can't do is download for offline listening on your Mac and then transfer the songs to the iPod.

I feel your pain, just today bought an iPod Nano only to find out that it has been locked outside the Music deal. Oh well, time to learn how to be better servant and less trouble for the company.

So, I've landed on this post, because my girlfriend wants some music on her iPod Shuffle. From the posts, I've concluded that it's impossible to sync Apple Music songs to the iPod.

But what I don't understand from the error is it saying that, in order to play Apple Music songs on the iPod, I have to enable 'iCloud Music Library' on the iPod.

Kind of weird, since this option isn't selectable in the iPod options-list, nor from iTunes Preferences. So: is this a new notification?

Of course I can't read the message; but my guess is that it's simply a generic message really intended for the case where someone is attempting to use an iPod Touch without going through the proper procedure. Notwithstanding whatever it says, you are correct in that you cannot access Apple Music songs on an iPod Shuffle or Nano because they have no internet connection.

    Oh, yeah. It says iPod.

Not Nano or Shuffle specifically. Thanks!

    Hello All,

There is actually a very easy turnaround to this issue.

I just tried it, and it worked fine.

Open your iTunes, on your Mac.

    Create a playlist.

I imported mp3 files I had on my Mac. Import the music files you need.

Whenever the message stating that the playlist can only contain iCOuld Music and if you continue the playlist will be erased, just say ok and drag and drop your files in your new playlist. This will allow you to add your music files to My Music.

Once imported all the files you need, just click on Done.

After this, I have been able to successfully sync my iPod Nano with this playlist, and... surprise! this playlist also appears on my iPhone now.

Unfortunately, some songs of this group which are already in the Cloud did not sync, so it might be it, also (i.e. not to have those songs in the Cloud in the first place, as it will sync anyways).

I hope this can be of some help.

    Cheeers

    Claudia

A Apple poderia criar uma maneira de baixar as musicas para o ipod nano por um tempo limitado (1 mês por exemplo), depois desse tempo nós teríamos que conectar nosso ipod no iTunes para que a licença seja validada por mais um período.

Translation: Apple could create a way to download the songs to the iPod Nano for a limited time (one month for example), after which time we would have to connect our iPod in iTunes so that the license is validated for a further period.

This is not possible. There is no programming in the Nano to allow a music file to tell it that it will expire.

Actually, there is a big difference between playing on an Apple Watch and playing on an iPod Nano/Shuffle/Classic. In order to use the feature that you mentioned to sync a playlist onto your Watch, your Watch has to be directly Paired with an iPhone, which runs iOS and can verify your Apple Music subscription. Also, your Apple Watch is capable of wifi connection in order to verify continued membership.
