Q: Since upgrading to El Capitan I am not able to put items in the trash, I can only permanently delete them.  Help!

Since upgrading to El Capitan I am not able to put items in the trash, I can only permanently delete them.  Help!  When I right click on an item the only option is to move to trash (permanently delete is not even on the menu as promised it would be), and when I choose to put in the trash I get the warning that it will be permanently deleted ok or cancel.  Even when I try to drag and drop in the trash I the only option is the warning to permanently delete.  From all that I have read on the support discussions this is not supposed to happen and no else has posted a similar issue.  Please advise on how I can fix this problem.  There are many items I choose to leave in the trash for a time before emptying.  Thank you!

Linc- It worked, THANK YOU!  I followed step 1 and after the restart I was able to put a file in the trash.

Thanks to you and everyone that posted responses to help me with my issue

One last question- The solution provided resulted in the following file being left on my desktop, can I just delete this or should I save it?  Thank you so much!

It's a file that you downloaded from the website indicated. I have no idea what it is, but if you find out later that you needed it, you can either restore it from a backup or download it again.

This is not a fix, but rather a hack just to give you an immediate result.

    You need a DROPBOX account.

1.) Create a folder on your desktop called TRASH

2.) Load folder up with all files you want to discard

    3.) MOVE>TRASH folder to DROPBOX

    4.) DELETE>TRASH folder from DROPBOX

5.) Repeat steps each time you want to trash files

Again, this is not a fix to the -43 error code, but a quick way to clear your computer of unwanted files.

I'm still looking for the ultimate FIX, however. So keep updating this thread, please.
