Q: scam or "infected with malware?

I'm getting a pop up that says my computer is infected with adware or malware and to call888-858-1266, alert sites 23.245.78.44, I calle number and the guy wanted to access my computer. I hung up. Is this for real or a scam

iPhone 4S, iOS 7.0.4

It's a scam.

If you encounter it on a Mac, choose Force Quit from the Apple menu, close Safari, and then launch it with the Shift key held down. If the message reappears, disconnect the computer from the Internet and erase that site from the browser history.
If you encounter it on an iOS device, click here and follow the instructions in the first paragraph of the last section.
