Oct 7, 2015 9:54 AM in response to camiguinby KiltedTim,Office 2011 does NOT implement full screen mode. Full screen mode was not introduced years after Office 2011 was released. OneNote is NOT part of Office 2011.

Oct 7, 2015 10:31 AM in response to camiguinby DxbUz,After some online researches I found out that Apple and Microsoft are working on issues related to Office 2011 & 2016 compatibility with El Capitan. So let's wait for the softwares updates. Btw, Microsoft will keep updating Office 2011 at least till 2017.

Oct 12, 2015 6:30 AM in response to camiguinby KiltedTim,Office 2011 does NOT support full screen mode as implemented in OS X. It was written before full screen mode even existed and has not been updated to take advantage of it.

Oct 12, 2015 9:31 AM in response to DxbUzby Jay Bolton,I am not very good with computers guys so bare with me. i have read all your comments and i am confused.
can someone explain to me what is meant by "Office 2011 does NOT support full screen mode as implemented in OS X" because i have office 2011 and i have no trouble putting it full screen by clicking the green coloured full screen button in the top left. I'm assuming you know this so can't be referring to full screen in this way. i am also having trouble making it split screen with the new El Capitan feature. it actually moves the office 2011 window in to the bottom right corner and displays a message saying " not available in full screen" when trying to do it, which is what I'm assuming you are referring to. is the resolution to this problem a case of waiting for Microsoft to make an update which fixes it? or is there something in the settings of Microsoft or the macbook itself to change so that it works? I'm guessing the macbook is recognising that the app is not compatible in some way hence why it highlights the unavailability of it and separates it from the rest of the apps but as i said I'm really not sure. thank you for your attention to this in advance.

Oct 12, 2015 10:55 AM in response to Jay Boltonby camiguin,I'll repeat it: Office 2011 (update 14.5.6) does support full screen mode in El Capitan, I have it and I use it. The green button contains two small arrows pointing outside, and when you click it, the window goes into full screen mode, menubar disappearing and all the other trappings. The only (very minor) difference with other apps is that to return to normal mode you have to make the menubar to appear by taking the cursor to the top, and click on a small blue square in the extreme right of the menubar (other "regular" apps return to normal by clicking the same green button again, now with the two small arrows pointing inside, once it appears by moving the cursor to the top).
However, the split mode for Office 2011 simply does not exist. You click and hold the green button, and nothing happens, until you un-click, at which point it goes into full screen mode. The ghost rectangle and mini-mission-control by which other apps go into split screen mode do not appear in any of the Office 2011 apps.
To summarise: Office 2011 - in its latest update - does support full screen in El Capitan. Why, then, it does not support the very useful split screen, is a mystery to me, because it seems that all necessary elements are there. Besides, MS Onenote works exactly like the native apps. Somebody pointed out that it is not part of Office 2011, which surely it is true, but certainly is a Microsoft product and has a clear family ressemblance. Will Microsoft implement split mode in Office 2011?

Oct 12, 2015 11:05 AM in response to camiguinby Jay Bolton, thank you, that actually explained a lot. i sincerely hope they do implement split screen mode in office 2011, this is the most efficient use of the new split screen feature in my opinion.

Oct 21, 2015 9:35 AM in response to camiguinby cbouyio,I second that, I find no evidence supporting that MS Office 2011 does not have the full screen feature. The "green button with the two small arrows" exists perfectly and each application is able to run into perfectly run in full screen mode, yet no spit screen mode...
So I think that either the two features (i.e. split screen mode and full screen mode) are totally unconnected to each other (and thus people from Apple and/or MS should stop pointing that MS Office 2011 does not have the full screen mode support) or something is "lost in translation" between the two products and people are just pointing once to MS and once to Apple.
So I second all the observations of camiguin and I think that a complete answer has not been given yet.

Oct 22, 2015 8:08 AM in response to DxbUzby Mathildeedhec,Hey. I though the issue was going to be solved thanks to the update but my Excel crashed trying to split views. Does anyone know if Apple or Microsoft will release something that fixes the issue ?
Thanks.

Nov 8, 2015 3:05 AM in response to kcrenshaby gibberish111,Worked for me before too, I hadn't completed microsoft autoupdate in a while, finally decided to do it after I installed el capitan. The split screen stopped working after that... seems fishy

Jan 6, 2016 6:09 AM in response to KiltedTimby Hublfs,Sorry I know you wrote this in October. I just got Office 365 for my ipad pro and am still trying to figure everything out but I can't get it to split screen with any of the office apps. I can get the small view on the left but not th 50/50 split screen. Am I doing something wrong? I am sorry to bother you but I can't find the answer anywhere and you seem to know what you are talking about. Thanks for the help.

Jan 6, 2016 6:28 AM in response to Hublfsby KiltedTim,This thread has nothing to do with the iPad or iOS. It is regarding Split screen mode in El-Capitan... OS X 10.11. You'll be better served by starting a new thread in the correct forum.

Feb 4, 2016 9:54 AM in response to DxbUzby o2binchicago,The issue is not with El Capitan but with Microsoft. Their version 15 does not, as far as I can tell, allow a split screen; version 14 allows a split screen. Nor does Write-n-Cite (refworks) work with the new implementation. So, 2 versions of MS Word are needed.
