Q: I choose CD/DVD Master and it creates .dmg.cdr

Hello.

I am trying to install windows 10 via boot camp on my Mid 2015 15" MacBook Pro running El Capitan.

I used another computer running Windows 10 to create an Install USB with 64-bit on it. Now that I have that in my MacBook I try to create an image of it to be able to have Boot Camp recognize it. I created a .cdr file successfully one time but when I went to Boot Camp it said there was not enough free space on the disk. When I looked at the info of the .cdr file it was a 15.68gb file due to the fact that the USB drive I used was a 16gb drive. So I decided to get rid of all that empty space that was being created in the image and copy all the items on the drive to a folder on my desktop. Now that I am trying to create an image of that so that it will be a smaller file, it keeps creating a .dmg.cdr file. I name it "Windows" and choose CD/DVD Master but it keeps producing a "Windows.dmg.cdr" file and I don't know why this is going on. Maybe it doesn't matter what it is called but I have been having so many issues trying to Windows 10 and this is the next problem on the long list that I need to resolve.

Any advice would be great.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015), OS X El Capitan (10.11), 2.8ghz, Intel Iris

From Create an ISO image for Boot Camp from Windows installation media - Apple Support,

From the Finder, locate the disk image file you created earlier. Single click on it to select it, then press the Enter or Return key on your keyboard to rename the file. Change the disk image file extension from .cdr to .iso. When prompted, click "Use .iso" to verify this change.

Download the ISO directly from Microsoft which 64-bit. Do not download a combined ISO. A 15.6+ GB ISO is a mixed ISO. The USB downloaded from Microsoft is the actual Installer. If you put the Installer on a USB and try to create an image, it is indeed a .dmg.cdr.
