Q: Fcpx 10.2.2 crashes after installing OS X El Capitan

Hello everybody.

Fcpx 10.2.2 keeps crashing after installing OS X El Capitan 10.11 last night. Any ideas on how to solve this?

Does anyone else have this same problem? I wonder if Apple is aware fo this and if we can expect an OS X update to solve this bug.

Thanks.

I have now tried repairing the photo library - it didn't stop the crash.  Created a new library and that doesn't cause the crash.  I have a large library of photos (67,000) and 60GB, so I don't really want to have to recreate it.  Any further ideas would be appreciated.

    By repair,you mean re-build?

If my Photos library seemed to be corrupted, the question that I would ask myself is how important is browser access to my FCP X workflow? In my case, it is not very important, and I'd probably proceed with the "null library" as my system library. But I understand for many, it is very important.

There is third party app named iPhotos Library Manager that has a merge libraries feature and I was going to suggest you use it to merge the suspect library into a new library. Unfortunately, the Photos version they recently released ommits that feature.

    Update on progress.

So the rebuild of photo library didn't work.  FCP crashed on start up.

Remove the library and FCP works.

I created a new empty photo library and FCP worked.

I took the plunge and added a huge chunk of photos to the library (photos were referenced from a NAS drive).  Interestingly the size of the library is now greatly reduced, although not all photos are added, so I will keep an eye on this.

As i progressed I checked, and FCP continued to run.

One of the last things I did was turned on photo stream.

    FCP stopped working.

Various checks seemed to indicate that this might be where the problem is.

I have just created another a new system photo library and switched on photo stream and photo sharing.  All seems to be working. Currently downloading all my iCloud photos to my library, at which point I will turn off the uploading feature, as all my other photos are stored on elsewhere and I don't want them in the cloud.

Hopefully this has now solved the problem.

All the photos in iCloud downloaded successfully.  started to add files from the NAS drive. Photos are not copied to the library Just referenced.

Checked it initially all seemed to be going well, FCP worked fine.

Just checked it again FCP now crashing on start up.

Removed photo library to trash - FCP works, Return it to its location FCP crashes.

    Photo Library is about 22GB.

I'm thinking size of the photo library perhaps?

I don't think its the referenced files, as it worked initially.

    Any further ideas?

I have been having this problem! All seems to be working fine and then as soon as I click 'stabilization' for a clip and it starts to 'analyze for dominant motion', it crashes. I open it back up and it then completes the render and stabalization for that clip, but then select a new clip to stabalize and it happens all over again. It is driving me nuts! I only purchased FCP 6 weeks ago and it is unusable as it is.

Been on the phone to Apple support who made made me do various things but nothing has worked. Its clearly a very specific problem.

I would love to hear if someone finds a fix to this.

I have exactly the same problem. Unfortunatly I think we have to wait an update with bug correction. Everything start with el captain for me! Use core melt stabilization for the moment if you have it;)

I solved the crash problem, just installed the drive Nvidia by http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/92173/en-us address

    Test there, really works

Hot ****, I think it worked for me too! You know, I was convinced it was a GPU driver issue but only bothered to hunt for a CUDA update since I have an NVIDIA card (even though I know FCPX doesn't use CUDA) just on the hopes it was some crazy conflict but stupidly didn't think to dig deep enough to look for this more generic driver update! Thanks!

oh and PS, I don't have one of the exact cards listed there either. I have a GT 650M but it still worked!
