Q: Does Restore fix the bugs in 9.0.2 or re-install them?

I've had terrible issues with the 9.0.2 update, including:

  1. Text with photos not being sent using either wifi or cellular -- this is how problems started. Then problems got worse:
  2. Texts not being sent reliably
  3. Emails not being sent to addresses using either wifi or cellular. A number of emails tested.
  4. Cannot connect to internet using cellular data
  5. No notifications when texts received
  6. No notifications on app updates
  7. Cannot use Restore because purchased items are not transferring
  8. Says it will erase the items and I will have to repurchase them.
  9. No playlists showing up in iTunes

I've read the Forbes article on the bugs, and many many news articles listing the bugs.

It describes the buggy software as hugely buggy and affecting iPhone users nationwide.

Completely frustrating experience, and very disappointed in Apple for its lack of quality control.

Very disappointed in Verizon too for not being insistent with Apple that they do better beta tasting

before allowing the rollout on their phones.

Steps to solve:

I've tried re-setting the phone.

I've gone through Tier II Verizon diagnostics twice.

I've gone the the 20-or-steps of Verizon troubleshooting online.

Wifi works perfectly at home. All home computers working very well.

I've backed up the phone to the computer.

I've backed up the phone to iCloud, but do not want to Restore using iCloud (takes forever).

But when I've gone to Restore the iPhone -- as a last resort --

the computer says I need to transfer my purchases or I will have to re-purchase them.

I then go to transfer the purchases and my computer indicates this has finished.

However, when i proceed with the Restore process, I get the same error message again:

that the purchases have still not been transferred and that I will have to re-pay.

Gone through this six times.

The purchases are not being transferred. I've read other posts that this is happening

with other iPhone 6 users after the 9.0.2.

Which means I cannot proceed with Restore.

What a mess.

So, is it worth all this effort and work -- hours and hours and hours -- when Restore

will simply install the same buggy software that's affecting a nation of iPhone users?

Does Restore fix the bugs in the 9.0.2?

Put another way, will a Restore simply install the buggy software all over again?

Is the only thing that can fix this a new update -- 9.1? It's in beta now...

What is your direct experience using Restore to fix the 9.0.2 bugs?

Thanks for your help.

    Hi

A Factory reset will return iPhone to new condition

It will remove bugs & problems

    Set backup over your wifi.

I do a factory reset about

Every 2 months on iPhone / iPad if they are

    Slowing down.

    Cheers

By restoring the phone and setting it up as a new device, the phone will work like it did when you got it.  You start fresh from scratch.

By restoring the phone form a backup you will restore what ever data corruption you're experiencing now, so the same issues will persist.

Factory reset did not work. Already tried with Tier II tech support at Verizon. Actually tried twice.

    Any other ideas?

Do you have direct experience with Restore and the software that is then installed?

If it's the same buggy software that's installed with Restore, why even do it?

Unless it's restore to an earlier version, say 8.34 or so.

The source of the problems is the new update, that's been established. It's been established that this is a huge issue with this update.

So, if I'm understanding you correctly, Templeton, you're saying that backing up the device and then using Restore will not help

unless I restore it as a new device, correct?

    Thanks for your help.

Most have no issues at all with the update.

It is not a systemic problem with the update.

It is yours and a few others individual phones.

If restoring from backup does not help then restore as new.

    That is incorrect.

Read the many, many national articles about the issues with the update.

I have. I've researched the issue extensively.

Bear in mind, I cannot Restore at all since my purchases are not transferring, as I described in my OP.

This is yet another identified issue. Once again, I've done the research on this issue as well.

Apple says it will erase my purchases, and that I will have to repurchase them if I continue to Restore

without transferring them. But the transfer does not work. Tried ten times. Even with Apple Tech Support on phone.

You are wrong.  You can always redownload app purchases free of charge.

    They are not being transferred.

Apple error message says i will have to re-pay. I'm going by Apple on this.

Also, see the other threads on this very issue.

I'm not saying that you're not being presented that message. I'm saying that you're wrong in the sense that app redownloads are not free, when in fact they are and have been since they app store opened in 2008.

Are you trying to download them using the same Apple ID that was used to originally purchase them?  If not, then there's your problem.

Even Apple Tech support had no solution, but acknowledged that the problem was going on with transferring files.

Apps are not the only things needing to be transferred. Lots of other file content also.

See the other threads on the issue.

Do you have any other solutions or ideas? I have thoroughly explored the transferring files error,

and have heard numerous others say the same as you, only to have what they say not work in reality.

Seems like the only option is to wait till 9.1 is out of beta.

Files were never transferred but Apple guaranteed I would not have to repay (thank you).

Spent four hours on phone with Apple doing complete Restore.

Reinstalled new software and updates freshly and bugs still exist.

    Verizon replacing phone. Terrible situation.
