Q: Apple ios 9.0.2 - WORST update ever!

Updating to ios 9.0.2 has been the single WORST experience on my iPhone 6+ or any iPhone for that matter!

1. Apps fail to update. When I tap the "update" or "update all" button, it just rolls around and goes back to the original "update" status!

2. When I restart my phone, my "settings" and other apps randomly open in the background when my phone restarts!

3. Apps are crashing left, right and centre!

4. Reminders are failing to be sent as before!

5. Push notifications are failing to be sent as before!

6. Phone freezes much more than it use to!

Why the **** does an "ios update" these days always mean incredible annoyance and endless frustration? It's like my phone has been hijacked by all these useless bugs and it's not even funny. Is someone seriously getting intoxicated at Apple and screwing things up with each ios update? What the **** is going on???

How do you want Apple to fix the problem with YOUR PHONE? It isn't a problem with all phones, or even a significant minority of phones. The problem is specifically your phone. It seems like you expect Apple to know what the problem is, without seeing the phone or talking to you. Even if it's a bug, it can't be fixed by saying magic words. It requires actually doing something on the phone, like reinstalling the current OS or installing an update. Either one is "starting over."

Your problem is slow app updates. You've seen a smattering of reports about similar problems. What you haven't seen is 250,000,000 reports about it (the approximate number of phones that are running 9.0.2), or even 0.01% of that number (25,000). So whatever the problem is, it is unlikely to be the version of iOS that you are running. I have 4 devices running 9.0.2. None of them have an issue with slow updates.

    Simple things you can do:

    • Reset network settings
    • Repeat the update using iTunes. Sometimes OTA updates fail because they are only patches, while an iTunes update replaces the entire iOS image. (That's why I always update using iTunes.)

But you have to do SOMETHING. Wishing it to get better without doing anything isn't going to work.

    I agree, Jay.

I've done numerous troubleshooting sessions with both Tier II at Verizon and Apple and the issues persist.

Apple and Verizon both are saying this update has given them enormous headaches and many many customers are

suffering from the same issues you identified and that I identified in my thread here:

Does Restore fix the bugs in 9.0.2 or re-install them?

Reports directly from Apple and Verizon Tech Support are saying this is major update fail that's affecting millions of customers.

Read the national press articles on the huge headaches and issues this update is causing.

I haven't seen ANY articles, and I read many "national press" media. Beyond the smattering of sensationalism that is standard in the industry. There's been nothing in The New York Times, The Guardian or The Wall Street Journal. All "national press" media. Nothing in The Verge. Nothing in CNET. Nothing at AppleInsider.com. There was an article in Forbes, but this was not mentioned as an issue in that article.

ADDENDUM: Even Macrumors.com has no mention of any WiFi problems.

And even the articles I have seen don't mention "millions of customers." Even the number of posts here in ASC is very small, compared to REAL issues like this one:

    Screen Shot 2015-10-14 at 10.00.26 AM.png

That WAS a real issue that affected approximately 5% of the 100 million iPhones in use 3 1/2 years ago, and generated 13,000 posts in the above thread alone, and 2 1/2 million views.

Having the same issue with slow app updates on wifi.  Same deal on 2 different wifi networks.  iPad is also having the same issue. Both iPad and iPhone 6s running 9.0.2.  Interestingly enough I can download a new app or one from the cloud and it's downloaded and installed fast like it should.  Done all of the troubleshooting to no avail. First issue I've had on iOS.

My Iphone 6Plus is officially a 'zombie' . "Walking Dead" type of zombie Slow.

Home button response - Slow ( accidental deployment of SIRI )

    Power button response - slow.

    Lauch App - Slow

    iOs 9.0.2 started all this.

The whole user experience now feels retro Iphone 3.

Everything is slow. Its so hard to describe it. Argh!

Miss the fluidity of previous iOS-8

Please, some one of the thousands of developers out there HELP!

I have a zombie iOs in my phone.

Trying to tie some of these reports together.

Problems updating apps in iOS 9.0.2

ios 9.0.2 - app download is slow

Apps download completely slow after upgarding to 9.0.2

Note the following feature of 9.0.2:

    iOS 9.0.2

"   •  Software updates require less space to download and offer an option to install later"

That's 3. Only 997,999 to go to reach a million. And a lot more for millions.

And those are probably related to the fact that the iTunes/App Stores were having intermittent problems yesterday and earlier today.

No, that's not three.  Glance at the original post.  There is a "i have this problem too".   Then consider for every report you find, there are lots of people that have not reported it, or not reported it to a place you see.

Nobody is saying EVERY phone has this issue.  But that doesn't mean there is no problem.  The bug can involve certain types of Internet connections, wireless connections, certain phones, etc.

Yes, the problem could be related to problems with the store.  It would have been nice if someone had offered that comment earlier as a possible cause/contributing factor.

Verizon is definitely not saying this.

I have two different devices that exhibit the same problem so I can say it's pretty likely a restore won't help me.

So that means you haven't tried restoring it? So, no, you don't really know it won't help. Report back after the restore.

Doesn't fit exactly, but might all be different angles on the same problem.  Potentially there are issues in 9.x that can interact poorly with various Internet connectivity differences.

When searching for the app download issue, I see a lot of issues of people having more widespread slowness, like music streaming.

    A few quick observations.

I had an updating for Google Translate.  I told it to update, and wasn't going anywhere.

I stopped it, deleted the app, and attempted to re-install.... no significant progress..

I disabled wifi so I was using LTE (Verizon), and tried the install again... it worked.

Keep in mind I checked my Internet speed this morning and got 95/95.

It makes me think this is some sort of connectivity issue.  Maybe between Apple's servers and certain parts of the Internet, or perhaps impacting certain types of connections.

Start with the many articles by Forbes on the iOS 9.0 update and those subsequent to that.

Also, Apple Tech Support says they have been inundated with calls on the bugs with this update.

    As has Verizon.
