Q: IOS 9 and GPS - are there issues?

I can confirm that a reboot fixes it temporarily at least. GPS was terrible across ALL apps that use it. A reboot brought everything back in line.

So then reboot is required every few hours to utilize GPS properly??!! For a $800 device???!!! Hellllllllllll no

Everything I've tried has had zero impact on the problem:

- reboot

- reset network settings

- reset all settings

- hard reboot

- turn off location settings / reboot / turn back on

I'm getting very close to looking into reverting back to iOS 8 until this is resolved as it's sort of a big deal.  Problem is it's hard to tell when it's resolved since it doesn't sound like a consistent issue for all people.  I'd really like to have more info about why that is and what's going on.  It's also interesting this wasn't caught in beta.

I Am having an issue with all GPS apps after upgrading to iOS 9. The GPS signal is picked up quickly as normal, and tracking works initially. After a few minutes, the position will jump forwards and backwards in the direction I am currently moving. I am seeing this in google maps and running apps I use.

In the running apps, the distance tracked is 3 to 4x normal, and the map of the trace looks normal when viewed. When I zoom in on the trace, I can see parallel rays along my trajectory that are jumping back and forth, logging the long distances.

In google maps, the navigation started normally, but after a while, I could see my marker move backwards, freeze, then jump forwards my current location, freeze again, then move backwards. The cycle repeats. The deviations are always in the direction I am currently moving, not random.

AT my Genius Bar appointment yesterday, I was told that probable cause is corrupt software on initial loading of OS onto device..I was under the impression that after restoring without restoring backup was like installing fresh OS but guess it doesn't work like that..Anyway...my device was replaced, and it is as good as ever now..swift lock of GPS and steady stable positioning all day everywhere.

My 5s gets GPS signal quickly, and tracks very well at first, then starts the forwards and backwards deviations parallel to the trajectory I am moving at the time.  I had one long run this past weekend where the GPS was fine for about 10 to 15 minutes, then tracked 23 miles over the course of three, then went back to normal.  It said I ran 29 miles in 130 minutes! The map looked perfectly normal until I zoomed in on the route and could see the parallel rays.  Not sure if this is the same problem you were seeing or not, but it sounds like it may be different.  Ugh!

I am having the same problem with ios 9.0.2. My GPS signal is so slow and Waze, Google Maps and Apple Maps do not get an accurate location to within 300 metres. Waze doesn't register that I have GPS and so doesn't work. Annoying thing is I contacted Apple and they said come to an apple store to see the Genius bar. Thats fine if there was one close by. Also I am out of my warranty period by a couple of days so I could be liable for repair costs.

I don't think that fair considering its Apple's firmware update that's done it and not negligence on my part with the phone. Thankfully I am with 3 and they have confirmed they cover the repair and will reimburse the cost should any be incurred.

Same problem here with the GPS and accurately tracking my location (it doesn't!). I use to be able to use the iPhone as my navigation device when flying an aircraft, but now my confidence in the device is so low I won't/can't use it. iPhone 6/iOS 9.0.2.

So, is this just a place for us to vent, or does Apple actually reply to anything?  Seems like a pretty major issue.
