Q: How can I upgrade from OS X 10.6.8

I have and older macbookpro 15" on which I have recently upgraded its 120gb HD and 1gb ram to 300gb SSD and 4gb of ram, in order to upgrade software. I recently bough OS X Mountain Lion thinking it would work, but when I started the download it prompted that it was not compatible with my computer. Can any point me in the right direction or serve up some sort of solution if any is possible.

Don't spend any more money until you know if you're computer can handle said OS.
Mountain Lion Specs say your MBP needs to be Mid/Late 2007 or newer. I think yours is Late 2006 so I'm not sure if it will work even if you get Lion.
You should be able to install Lion though since the specs are based purely on your computer's processor and RAM

Also, if you are trying to update to a newer OS, AppleCare will temporarily give you free support to get upgraded.

based on the systems requirements given by the OS mountain lion is why I got it, but I was unable to install the software. Unfortunately I just ordered the Lion OS I should receive the licensing email in a day or so and will update you on the progress, if any is made.

You can call AppleCare and just tell them you are updating your OS and need help with upgrading. Unless things have changed over there, you should be able to get some support.

thank you all for the help and suggestions, I was able to install lion with no problems and is working just fine. I haven't however tried to install mountain lion yet, will keep you posted if I do. thank you all again.

I haven't however tried to install mountain lion yet,

A MacBookPro2,2 is hardware-constrained to running no higher Mac OS than 10.7.5 Lion:
