Q: iTunes 12 won't acknowledge Media Folder

Thank you Limnos. The second link solved my problem. Here are a couple of minor comments on that Support Document for anyone landing here.

"3. Drag the iTunes Library.itl file to your Desktop." The idea here is to remove the old .itl file from iTunes folder without prematurely throwing it away. If your iTunes library is on an external drive, dragging it to your desktop will not delete it from this folder. You'll have to then do that manually.

"7. Rename the copied file iTunes Library." Actually, rename it iTunes Library.itl, but it will probably suggest that when you rename it.

9. "This computer is no longer authorized to play purchased items that are on the iPod 'iPod Name'. Would you like to authorize this computer for purchased items from the iTunes Store?" Choosing Authorize, brings up the "Enter Apple ID and Password" window and entering here got me something like (didn't grab a screenshot), "This computer is already authorized…" and the number of authorizations I have left. I'll start this as a new thread.
