Q: My old photos from i photo are not uploading to photo.  Is there some way to fix this?

I have an i mac from 2010 and I just uploaded OS X.  Now my photos from i photo are not uploading (i.e. "updating") to the new "photo" application.  It gets up to about 15% at most and then gets stuck.  Help.

iMac (21.5-inch Late 2009), OS X El Capitan (10.11)

    Hello dnormy,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

If your current iPhoto library is unable to be upgraded to Photos, then I suggest that you first try and repair your iPhoto library before going through the upgrade process.  I suggest that you first back up your library as the window says, and then start with repairing permissions.  If it still won't update, then you can go with repairing the database, and then rebuilding the database if it still continues to not upgrade.

    To rebuild the iPhoto library:

    1. Quit iPhoto if it is open.
    2. Hold down the Command and Option keys on the keyboard.
    3. Open iPhoto.
    4. Keep the keys held down until you are prompted to rebuild the library.
    5. A dialog will appear with rebuild options. Select the options you want to use.
    6. Click Rebuild to begin the rebuild process. This may take a few minutes to complete.

    Take care.
