Q: dictation and siri are not working on my apple watch

dictation and siri are not working on my apple watch.

I am not so bothered about siri, but not being able to dictate a text message is irritating.  I can see the microphone but it will not activate.

I also bought my watch recently and it wasn't working. Siri didn't recognize dictation, but looked as though it was trying to connect. After a bit of time and waiting, it finally said that it could not connect to my iPhone (which is not true) or watch (After multiple tries with the Siri prompt on the watch). When i followed the instruction to shutdown BOTH devices and restart, it worked immediately on the watch.  Thank you for the support --

I have tried all the solutions offered here, except unpairing and repairing the phone and watch, which I'll try at home.  NOTHING works.  I can dictate on the phone, and Siri works on the phone....which is a 6 Plus with the latest iOS 9.0.2.  The Watch will take no dictation, and Siri doesn't work.

I know the microphone on the watch is working though, because when I tap the watch where the microphone is, it picks up the sound.  Doesn't do me much good, but at least I'm pretty sure the Watch isn't defective.

    Any ideas?

    Fluff in the microphone.

I had no dictation or Siri on my Apple Watch and tried all the resets etc suggested above. Called Apple Support and was advised to reset my iPhone settings and this did not correct the problem. It seems that the mic was not working. So before taking it into the Apple Store, I carefully used a wooden toothpick and a touch of saliva, and cleaned out fluff in the mic cavity (on the case at about 8 o'clock). Not recommended, probably, but it worked. Mike is now fine. Siri is happy.

I don't know that this will help your watch problem, but I found a fix for the dictation and Siri problem on the iPhone. (I have an Apple watch but don't use it for dictation.)  I have to say, I found this solution no thanks to Apple, who's online chat, as seems so often the case, just reads canned responses that most of the time just fail. They had me backup the phone, erase it completely, restore from iTunes, etc....all, of course to no avail, and a huge waste of time as many things had to be reinstalled, watch had to be re-paired, etc.  Just cancelled a "genius bar" (gah! what a moniker!) appointment which was made because Apple's techs were clueless. Cancelled because the phone is now fixed (see below).

Here's the seemingly ridiculous solution that worked for me after many failed non-solutions were tried (I found this on a developer's page): Make a call with the iPhone, put the phone on speaker for a few seconds, disconnect the call.  Dictation and Siri then work again.  The fix/workaround seems to hold even after power-off and reboot.  Hope this helps you.

Still venting...I've used Apple products for so long that the oldest hard drive I had was 500 MB.  I used to like Apple.  I've also used lots of Windows systems and Android.  Presently, everything I have is Apple (except for Quicken and Dragon dictation which I run in Windows 7 via Fusion), and I'm getting progressively disgusted with the little walled garden that seems to be Apple's approach to all of their products.  I'm so fed up I'm thinking of unloading my Apple stock.

How can this help with Siri and dictation on the Apple Watch?

As I said in the first para, I didn't know if it would help with the watch, but it helped with dictation on the iPhone, and, as I understand it, the watch works with the phone.
