Trie updating quick time. If you click the Apple at the top left (if your using a Mac) > App Store > Updates (top right tab from opened window). If Quick Time doesn't show, go to this link and download the latest Quick Time here: https://support.apple.com/downloads/#quicktime
VLC is also a goo software to use as it read pretty much every formate.

Your sound/speakers settings could be messed up too. Go to the Apple again at the top left corner > System Preferences > Sound > and make sure your "Internal speakers" are selected under the "output" tab.
