Q: Trying to install Window 7, several issues

Hey.  So I just upgraded to El Capitan and I have a mid-2012 13" MacBook Pro and now I am trying to partition my hard drive via Boot Camp.  I have the Windows 7 Home Premium DVDs. I ran Boot Camp and had all 3 boxes checked.  It wanted me to select an ISO file and there isn't one.  It looks like it won't let me install via the DVDs, which I've always used.  So I found the windows iso file online and downloaded it and tried to create the USB boot disk that way. It gives me an error of "The USB bootable drive cannot be created.  Boot Camp only supports Windows 7 or later installation on this platform. Please use an ISO file for Windows 7 or later installation."  So then I tried using Disk Utility to create the USB drive from the DVD.  It says there is an error and gives me a status 30.  I've tried doing different formats (as a google search suggested) as well as formatting the USB drive through Terminal to do it that way.  Still receiving the same error.  I'm stumped at what to do.  I start a job in a week and I have to have Windows on my computer because the company software is not compatible with OS X.  Any ideas?

Start up your computer As soon as the startup sound comes, hold the alt key.If your cd is in,wait and eventually Windows CD will come.As for the USB,you could have a damaged iso or usb.Try using another iso,usb or both.

The USB is good.  It will write other files to it, I just can't get Disk Utility to create an iso from the disk.  So do I just create a partition in Disk Utility on the hard drive and install Windows via the route you mentioned?

There seems to be some confusion in what the process is.

    1. If you check the first option on the 2012 MBP (Create USB Installer...), you must use an ISO. If you have a physical DVD, use Create an ISO image for Boot Camp from Windows installation media - Apple Support to create an ISO first. BCA will not read the physical DVD and create an ISO on the fly. You cannot uncheck the second option (Download Software).

    2. If you uncheck the first option on the 2012 MBP, you will have the second option which will write the BC drivers to the USB (and mark it unbootable) and a physical DVD is expected to be able to boot from and start the Windows Installer. The USB is still needed to provide $WinPEDriver$ to provide a pre-boot environment, for the peripherals to work properly.

You need to either choose 1 or 2. You are choosing a combination, which is invalid.
