Q: Partition corrupt

I originally have dual boot OS X + Linux. Then I removed the ext3 and swap partitions from disk utility. After reboot I can only go to recovery mode.

Can change the partition type, manually correct the table, to see whether I can get data back?

Probably a corrupted partition.   That's unfortunately very common — bugs and errors here have clobbered data for more than a few folks.

See if the recovery partition can resolve this, or alternatively see if booting from your Disk1 or otherwise accessing Disk0 via Target Disk Mode might be able to access and resolve this problem either from a different OS X bootstrap on Disk1 or from another Mac using a compatible cable, and — if not — restore the partition contents from backup.

If you don't have current backups, then you'll want to contact a data recovery service.

If you want to learn the innards of partitions and of the HFS+ file system yourself, then Amit Singh's OS X Internal book and tools are probably your next stop.

Thank you! Unfortunately I don't have any backup. The picture was taken in recovery mode, which does not help. Even if I want to write dist0, it said resource busy. I guess if I could boot from CD-ROM or usb to Linux, I will be able to analyse GPT and correct it using hexeditor. Long time ago, I ever used a great tool in dos, which edit partition table in hex and search lost partitions using volume name and fs type. I hope I can find a similar tool somewhere.
