Q: Why can't I connect my iPhone 5S to my MacBook Pro via Bluetooth?

I have an iPhone 5S with iOS 9.0.2 and Macbook Pro (mid-2014) with El Capitan 10.11.

I'd like to use Continuity on these devices, but for some reason I can't manage to connect the two via bluetooth. When I press the "Connect to the Network" button on the MB, I'm given the error "Network not available"; when I try do the same via iPhone, I get "Connection Unsuccessful. Make sure your Macbook is turned on and in range".

My Magic Mouse works fine when paired with the Macbook above, so I don't really know where the problem might come from.

Any ideas/fixes?

Thank you.
