Q: Major Photo issues!!

Over the last month we've been having issues with Photo not detecting the camera when plugged in to allow importing of pictures. Usually restarting the machine has fixed this, not the last day.

Same issue with trying to attach a picture in mail, or to Facebook. It finds the icons for the photo library, but not the photos. unlike windows, I can't click on the library icon to open it, it tries to attach the entire library! Same as above, restarting used to clear this up.

Ran disk utility, and upgraded to El Capitan. Now restarting doesn't work.

I found the old iPhoto app, it has a circle with a slash through it however, I don't have it in the App Store under purchases? I try to open, and it tells me it isn't compatible with el capitan, I have to update.

I backdoor'd it by making a new folder on the desktop, dragging pics into it, then selecting them from there to add to FB, or mail, however, I still can't import!

Can anyone walk me through ay type of fix for these issues?

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11), null

If you had some version of iPhoto 9 on your Mac at the time you upgraded to EC follow the directions posted by Tererence Devlin in this post:

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1

If iPhoto 9.6.1 is there, close the App Store, drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash and then go back to the App Store.

Install the App from the App Store.

Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?

iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

NOTE: the key to this procedure is to move the existing version of iPhoto 9 to the Trash bin in the Dock (don't empty yet) before going to the App Store.

Signed into the store, there is no button or link to "unhide" anything. The only thing I can do under "Manage" is create a nickname.

Didn't you read the Apple document  Hide and unhide purchases in the Mac App Store - Apple Support?

    This is from that document:

    Unhide your purchases

    1. Open the Mac App Store.
    2. Choose Store > Sign In, then enter your Apple ID and password, if you're not already signed in.
    3. Choose Store > View My Account.App Store001.jpg
    4. Enter your Apple ID password, if prompted.
    5. From the Account Information page, click View Hidden Purchases.
    6. From the Hidden Purchases page, locate the app you want to unhide.
    7. Click the Unhide button.

Yes, I did read that document. I followed the steps, which is how I came to the conclusion that I don't have anything that says "Hidden Purchases".

On the Account Information page, the top box is my Apple ID summary, The next bout says "Manage" and the only thing in that entire box, is "create a nickname", under that is a box that says "reset all warnings for buying and downloading.

And finally a blue "done" button.

If there is some other area I should be in, please tell me where to look, but I opened the app store, when to "view my account", entered my password, and then shared with you, exactly what I see on the screen.

If you're current version of iPhoto is iPhoto 9.0 or later contact the support personnel at the App Store thru this link:
