Why would they not disclose this if this is a known limitation.  Because they knew it would discourage people from upgrading?  Pretty disingenuous.

There was barely enough to justify using Notes before (basically *only* the iCloud syncing capabilities). The fact that Apple's highly-touted Notes "upgrade" is actually removing more useful features than it is adding is probably enough motivation for many users to migrate to one of the many available alternate note-taking applications.

To be clear, the syncing of iCloud Notes works perfectly fine with iOS 9 (and El Capitan) ... as long as all devices use the same iCloud account.  The problem is syncing between devices when the iCloud account is a secondary iCloud account, that is what no longer works.

This does not solve the problem of creating a new note in your IOS device and then being able to see/edit/use it from the Notes application on a MAC OS device (laptop or desktop). Also a note that I created using the Notes application on my Macbook OSX does not appear in icloud.

Come on Apple, you are starting to become like Microsoft. Nothing works anymore.

    nhorton,

I agree, I think a lot of people would have held off on upgrading. i did exactly what you said, left Notes and migrated over to Simplenote. At least with Simplenote my wife and I can sync our notes. Too bad Apple removed that from Notes. I don't understand why they remove such useful features. Really makes a person mad. The "it just works" is a lot of bull now. I'm not a happy iOS user anymore.

I'm having a similar problem: Shared reminders aren't syncing between users on iPhones.

My wife and I have shared reminders, notes and calendars as part of our Family Sharing. Turns out thst at least the reminders no longer sync.

    Jeremy,

I agree with you about this whole situation. I would not have upgraded if I knew we would lose the sync feature between my phone and my wife's. The only work around I could find was using a third Apple ID. I added the third Apple ID as  the secondary iCloud account on my phone and the wife's and turned off notes on our primary iCloud Accounts. We now have sync back but without all the "magical" features of the new iOS 9 notes app.

This method also worked with turning the notes feature on with a shared gmail account we have. Not a pretty fix but it worked.

Dumb of me to use Apple's in-house app, "Notes".  Upgrading to 9.0 was an improvement? Really?  What are the big-thinkers smoking?  I now not only have 3 folders containing some of my notes 1) iCloud, 2) gmail - one of my email accounts, and 3) On My iPhone.  There are duplications aplenty on #1, a few notes on #3, but worst of all, about 1/3 of all previous notes vanished when I upgraded.  AppleCare tried to recover and discovered they couldn't.  The AppleCare rep suggested that I purchase a third-party app that she uses, which she said was free.  Of course not!  It's 2.99/month.  Dummie me had a lot of passwords stored in Notes. Even though I regularly backed up my iPhone 6s to iTunes, that apparently had been a waste of my time upon upgrading. A David Copperfield trick - vanished into cyberspace.  My humble correction is to store all my passwords, usernames, and all other insignificant notes on - OMG - paper.  I can hardly wait for the next upgrade. Ain't gonna happen with this girl.

Yeeks!  Another software update screaming at me to download and install (actually, my 6+, not 6s - like it really matters?). The bug fixes are a joke.

    Brandon,

When you said you use a third Apple ID is it an @iCloud.com or is it a different email account.

    Thanks,

    Brandon,

I added a third Apple ID and it worked!!!!!! Thanks so much for the post. Now our Notes sync.

Hopefully Apple will fix the problem. I keep submitting feedback so let's hope they listen.

    Thanks again.

Yep, the next step is a third-party app. Already did that with iCal for other reasons. I thought I had researched "ios 9" problems sufficiently before I upgraded a new iPhone to 9 but now I've lost a piece of functionality that I used everyday.

if you have iOS 9 and el capitan, just go to your iphone > settings > icloud > turn off notes > allow it to delete notes on your phone and then turn it back on - this should add all notes that we ALREADY in icloud to your phone AND your computer.

but FIRST, check your notes are in icloud!

if they're not maybe add them somewhere else before doing the above = email them to yourself, etc

I only have one iCloud account, not two. the Notes application on my MacBook does not sync any more with my iPhone and iPad notes apps. Period. it was broken a few weeks ago with one of the myriad of IOS 9 updates on one of the devices.
